Former Sen. Robert F. Bennett is dead at 82 after battling cancer and suffering a stroke.
The Utah Republican was a three-term senator and senior member of the Appropriations Committee who was a close adviser to the current Majority Leader, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.
Bob Bennett once said that there are two kinds of senators in Washington, work horses and show horses; its clear to anyone who knew him which path Senator Bennett followed," McConnell said in a Wednesday evening statement. "Bob preferred the often low-key work of legislating to the bright lights of the media and approached his work with creativity, constructiveness, and honor."
"I know this is a difficult day too for the many members of Bobs staff who remained close years after his Senate service. I will miss this dear friend greatly," said McConnell.
Utah's senior senator, Orrin G. Hatch, was with Bennett throughout his Senate career.

While I didn't agree with Senator Bennett politically I liked him. He was better than that clown who replaced him.
