So many things Welles did- particularly in Kane, but he broke ground there too- became so ingrained into narrative filmmaking that you dont notice them now, but at the time he really was writing the manual.

Still, the whole charleton heston as a mexican deal remains a bit jarring.

picked him to play the part...on checking, it appears the character was written as a white cop, but Welles changed the character into a Mexican narcotics cop...Charlton Heston cited not doing a Hispanic accent for his Mexican narcotics officer Miguel 'Mike' Vargas as one of the biggest mistakes he ever made as an actor

cutting through the fence more informed about U.S. politics than 1/2 of Americans? The only thing missing from that commercial was Pape turning around and asking them "where are your badges". (that was a REAL ad and not some parody, right?)
