McCain on tape: Trump damages my reelection hopes
'If Donald Trump is at the top of the ticket,' the senator says in a recording obtained by POLITICO, 'this may be the race of my life.'
Publicly, John McCain insists Donald Trump will have a negligible effect on his campaign for reelection. But behind closed doors at a fundraiser in Arizona last month, the Republican senator and two-time presidential hopeful offered a far more dire assessment to his supporters.
If Donald Trump is at the top of the ticket, here in Arizona, with over 30 percent of the vote being the Hispanic vote, no doubt that this may be the race of my life, McCain said, according to a recording of the event obtained by POLITICO. If you listen or watch Hispanic media in the state and in the country, you will see that it is all anti-Trump. The Hispanic community is roused and angry in a way that I've never seen in 30 years.
At a private fundraiser last month, the Arizona senator warned that Donald Trump as the GOP nominee could antagonize Latino voters in his state and make his reelection campaign "the race of my life."

(59,442 posts)It was McCain who crapped that woman onto the world stage, in the process legitimizing ignorance, rage and paranoia as all-Murcan conservative values.
Now the Trump beast, its hour come round at last, slouches towards Cleveland to be nominated.

(58,785 posts)I'm not a person of faith, or the vision of Trump with access to the nuclear trigger would have me tying up loose ends here on earth.
Many around here see only signs of the end all around, never anything hopeful. They just don't understand why it hasn't happened yet, and many live in a state of anxiety over this. Then there are the 30 million or so Americans Pew identified who are eager for the end, most looking forward to going out in fine, righteous style via nuclear religious war, but I figure there's probably a lot of overlap.
Btw, as soon as Trump is officially the nominee, the CIA starts giving him daily briefings. Hearing that caused me my own twinge of anxiety. Wouldn't it be great to be a fly on the wall at Langley as they discuss Trump, though?

(5,717 posts)Summarizes the roots of this debacle. However, the roots also spread to the BFEE via GWB and others in the Repub party.
If the unthinkable happens, and the Trump beast is installed in the White House, our only hope is that saner minds will give him the incorrect nukular codes.

I really hope he wasn't hyping the "hispanic threat" even a little to energize a bunch of conservative donors. Let it be completely true. It certainly should be.

(30,481 posts)Can you show me where you think Trump is better. Clinton has stood on the Senate floor and fought for a pathway to citizenship with the likes of Obama, Boxer, Biden, etc. At one point they were only three votes short. That is fact.
Did you post on the wrong line, NC? Anyway, knock wood, but it'll be very strange if we don't win the presidency this time, and uncertain as other wins may be we should at very least get a majority in the Senate, if not control.

(30,481 posts)I just read your post over and over again and then it hit me. I'm sorry for my response. I repeatedly overlooked one word in your post. I have spent the last two days doing nothing but positive posts. I have been getting attacked for them and haven't responded in kind. I just went hypersensitive and stuck my foot in my mouth at the same time.
As I always do when I stick my foot in my mouth I am not going to edit to correct. The correction is in the conversation.
Thank you for being kind in your corrective response and my apologies for my fundamental reading flaw.

(254 posts)...since I live in hell hole Arizona ru(i)ned by repuglcants. I've never voted for this assh**e and never will. I just hope that there are also enough republicans who feel it's time for McSame to be retired and we can get him voted OUT of office. This year we do have a fairly competitive race with Ann Kirkpatrick. She has been my representative for the past few years in the U.S. House of Representatives. She has been doing a great job. Whether or not she can de-throne McSame is an open question.

(7,888 posts)McCain is in the cross hairs of the same sick political calculus he practiced. He deserves the wrath of his party, some thought he was a "compassionate conservative", before he selected the woman without a rational sound bite.
