Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump has a “yuuuuge” problem with women. Not only is he trailing Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton by double-digits in general election polls, those polls have also shown him with high unfavorable ratings among women. Some people, like Fox News host Megyn Kelly think that deficit is a challenge he can overcome, but a deeper look at Trump’s unpopularity with women shows just how titanic such a task will be. Consider Trump’s remarkable unfavorable ratings among one segment that makes up, according to the latest census data, one-third of all U.S. women voters: single women. U.S. News and World Report, citing an American Women poll conducted in January of this year, points out that single, never married women are highly unlikely to vote for Trump in the general election, and not because of his policies!

The poll shows women who agree with Trump on policy issues still wouldn’t vote for the billionaire — even Republicans and in overwhelming numbers — due to the unsavory language he uses when talking about women. The poll cited terms such as “fat pig,” “slobs,” and “bimbos,” among others, as examples of the language he’s used to describe women. And all of that data came before Trump accused his likely general election rival of playing the “women card,” a remark Hillary Clinton deftly turned into a fruitful fundraising opportunity.

If the current public opinion of him stays the same, Trump will have little chance of defeating Clinton come November. But things aren’t likely to stay the same given that Trump, apparently satisfied with the work he’s done to alienate women, turned his attention on Thursday to estranging another voting bloc he’s on shaky ground with: Latinos. Trump made a cringeworthy post on his social media accounts that even the head of the RNC had trouble trying to defend on Friday.
