My Loving Pitbull puppy rescue by Anonymous Milton, VT

I know many DUers have attitudes about pit bulls. I do too. But a rescue is a rescue.

We had adopted your brother just five months prior, but we felt it was time to add another dog to our family. We went back to the same rescue we found your brother and started looking at bios, and there you were. You had this sad look in your eyes, one that showed that you just wanted a home to call your own. We fell in love with your big block head, and knew we had to meet you. We setup a time for us to meet you and for you to meet us and your new potential brother. The meeting couldn't have gone better. We talked all about you on the 4 hour drive home, and once we were finally home we decided to make it official, and we decided to adopt you.

The two weeks that followed were spent preparing for your arrival, and finally the day was here. We traveled to you, and we fell in love all over again. We made our way home, and you made yourself right at home. The first few weeks were trying, two dogs were a lot more difficult than one, and it was important that you and your brother both felt love
equally. It took time, but eventually, everything fell into place, and now you and your brother are inseparable. Ares, my blocky headed wiggle butt, you have changed our lives forever. You teach everyone that you know that the stigma against Pitbulls is just not true. You are the happiest, kindest, gentlest dog I have ever met.

We love you, our over-sized lap dog, our protector, our daily smile, and our provider of unending kisses. We love you, Ares.

2. I rescued 1 year old female pitty...

...she is rednosed slightly brindle and looks like the one pictured. Before adoption she had been kept crated for a year, her owner was going to take her to the pound that week so I took her sight unseen.

I named her Rosie. A better name for her would have been Isis. She has been with me for 2 months, she gnaws on end tables, kitchen tables, lamp cords, extension cords, firewood, car seats seat belts...she ate my couch.

Rosie loves long walks...wherever she feels like towing me. She has met 4 new dogs, the one she did not get in a fight with ran away. Folks we encounter tell me she is such a darling little dog, they don't know that she is half pitt bull half demon!

Everything i wrote above is true... I dunno, my 2 prior pit bulls were not this much trouble. I am not sure if our relationship has much of a future but i am trying. Cesar Millan, if you are reading this, we could use some advise.

Do you have a treadmill you could train her to use? Bully breeds are really high activity dogs. You need to get her worn out about three times a week.

Find a trainer to help with the other stuff. She needs to learn to behave herself.

Is she crate trained? Leave her in a crate when you are gone so she won't eat the house. It has to be a really heavy crate or she will go right through it.

Get help.

I volunteer at and they have all been at least good dogs and many of them have been great dogs: happy, sweet, loving and gentle.

If a pit bull terrier is "bad" it's because it wasn't given enough socialization as a puppy, it's owners were the wrong type of people to own a terrier breed, the dog was abused or the owner/breeder intentionally trained or bred the dog to be vicious.

I certainly think a pit bull terrier (like most terriers) isn't for everyone. Like just about any terrier it requires an owner who is firm, assertive and confident, one who makes sure that the dog knows that the human is the pack leader. Additionally, to a degree it requires a human to be in reasonably decent physical health. A happy, enthusiastic pit bull that just wants to play and be affectionate that happens to be 75 pounds of muscle is a handful, but so is just about any other dog that size or larger.
