Pity Porn For Racists: The Media Wants You To Feel Sorry For Trump Supporters. Don’t.

The idea is that while the racism being whipped up here is truly noxious and unproductive, these poor creatures are simply acting out of a base animal instinct. It isn’t their fault. Pity the angry, white, conservative male.

Bullshit.

There’s never any reason why we should sympathize with the forces who enable the worst side of America. Ours is a country built for far too much of its past on a legacy of racism and discrimination, and the sooner we cease indulging the absolute gutter worst of the country, the better.

The argument is that the forces of globalization and overall income inequality have hit these people worse, and they are searching for someone or something that is “other” to strike out and hit.

But this argument fails simply because everybody else in America has been hit by the same squeeze but has somehow managed not to become a raging bigot over it. Minorities and women have lived with a world with 43 consecutive presidencies with a white male, and still live in a system where the vast majority of lawmakers and business leaders come from the same near-identical mold.

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

They don’t just complain about losing a small piece of the pie, their preferred solution is that nobody else even gets a fair shot. When you bring up a proposal to be more inclusive either based on race, gender, or sexual orientation, they immediately begin grumbling about the standards being lowered, even though well qualified — sometimes overqualified — people have been sidelined for eons because they didn’t buy the winning genetic lottery ticket.

We are long past the time when we should be feeling any sorrow for these people. They rolled around like hogs in the mud for so long, and are upset that their exclusive party is slowly, so slowly coming to an end.

Play the world’s smallest violin for them, then ignore their bigoted bitching and moaning.

The white supremacists are staring demographic disaster square in the face, from several different directions at once. They're scared shitless about it. Was this a question?

But it fails to address those deindustrialized communities and the rural poor whom the Democrats largely don't give two shits about anymore.

What were they supposed to do? Vote for a Party that abandoned them?

either they dismiss them as racists or use that as a shortcut to pander and dogwhistle: if there's any candidates they're typically conservative, but they're trying to steal thunder from the Zeuses of conservatism

the party's given up on fighting racism and racial division (if they can win on it, why give that up? same with voter caging)

6. It all depends. There's the mislead dupes, and then there's the alt-right.

I can gather some sympathy for the mislead dupes.

The alt-right--the incredibly racist, mysognistic, moronic cretins who constitute a good chunk of Trump's online support--are despicable assholes and I don't have a single ounce of sympathy for those shitheads.
