Ryan et al are whipped lap dogs - Ryan is no leader just a moron with nothing more than the ambition to be President. He will do anything for power and money...and so will most of the rest of ReTHUGs.

that way, Ryan won't be splattered when trump gets trounced in the G/E, damaging Ryan's 2020 chances.

that is strategic opportunism which should never be rewarded unless he actually supports the Trump agenda of misogyny, racism, fascism and the celebration of ignorance. ReTHUGs have two choices - and no one will be spared.

They earned this for years of pandering to anti-constitutional, backward, revisionist views.

If Trump won, it would be career suicide.

If Trump lost, yeah...he'd be the GOP Messiah in 2020, which I believe is exactly what he wants. How well he'd do would depend on how well the previous four years went. Assuming Clinton gets the nomination, if she pulls off a first term that defies expectations set by her detractors, everyone will be pleasantly surprised and she'll get a second term. If not, Clinton v Ryan 2020 could be even uglier than Clinton v Trump in 2016.

chunk of the GOP is about to abandon their convention to the Trump Shit Show. He's already told GOP candidates who are running for election and reelection that they don't have to show up at the convention.

A righteous rant at First Draft:

https://first-draft.com/2016/05/08/too-good-for-their-voters/

A little tease if you're not sure you want to click (hint: yes, you do):

I swear, it becomes less of a mystery every day, the alienation and anger of the GOP base. If you did this to me, decided to skip the party I planned AFTER I printed your name on all the balloons, I’d set your gift table on fire. Upend the cake into the pool. The petting zoo would be profoundly unsafe.

I’d release some snakes. See how much fun the pony rides are THEN.

In the five days since Donald Trump’s last remaining rivals quit, it’s been amazing, watching the GOP turn its back on its own voters. They are publicly, loudly, emphatically declaring they are too good for their own voters, and it’s amazing to watch.
