He also manages to keep himself from being criticized. Attack! Attack! Attack! That is his strategy. Keep the opponent on the defensive. So far, it has worked very well for him.
Paul Ryan and other Republicans are slow to endorse, not because they have any problems with Trump, but because they have doubts about whether he will help or hurt them in the next election. That is their primary concern. My hunch is that they will all unite behind him soon. Because they want to win.
In my opinion, Democrats should attack those Republicans that support Donald Trump. Do not waste their time attacking Donald Trump himself, but rather, those Republican hypocrites that would support such a "loser" for President for our country. They do not deserve to be in the House or Senate. These Republicans running for re-election would love to escape scrutiny as all the criticism is directed at Donald Trump alone.
