This candidacy is like the frog in the pan of boiling water. A year ago it would have been unthinkable that the kind of grown man who would call reporters and pretend to be his own publicist--it's so middle-school!--could come this close to the presidency.

So he has admitted doing it at least twice and now denies it.

And a Mysterious PR Man Who Sounds Just Like Donald Calls to Spread the Story” — Trump invited the reporter out for a night on the town with him and Maples. Carswell says Maples persuaded Trump to issue the invitation as an apology for tricking her. A few weeks later, when People ran a story about Trump and Maples getting engaged, Trump was quoted saying that the John Miller call was a “joke gone awry.”

He was a 44-year-old grown-ass man when he did that.

I think because it's Trump it doesn't seem quite as odd or needy or childish as it is, but it's pretty hard to imagine a normal adult--or the President of the United States--playing make-believe like that.

6. It's easier to understand when you consider Trump is a psychopath

He thinks he can simply manipulate people to get what he wants, and when busted he simply lies his way out of it. Since he believes everyone else is stupider than him, there's no chance he won't get away with it. Whatever ethical considerations there are against such behavior aren't even considered.
