Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSo Donald Trump is now officially a liar. It is not disputable
He claims that's not his voice on the tape. He previously admitted it was him and apologized. He brazenly lied and thought nothing of it on national TV.
End of story, done deal.

(10,650 posts)I said trump is a liar. I have no problem saying that. I also have said Her Majesty can lie with the best of them.
My candidate isn't as big a liar as your candidate isn't a winning campaign slogan.

(16,399 posts)This thread is for people who want to call Donald Trump a liar. Why don't you go start a thread about how you think our potential nominee is a liar if you feel so strongly about it. If not at this site, there are many out there who will gladly entertain your nonsense. You're the one who keeps bringing up someone else.
Donald Trump is a liar.
BillZBubb
(10,650 posts)You can pretend that isn't so if you want. It's simply a weak line of attack against him.

(17,600 posts)Compare the numbers at Politifact. Hillary's numbers are typical for a typical politician. You may not like it but that's what it is. Politicians lie. Guess what? PEOPLE lie. Hillary is about the median for a typical politician. Your Saint Bernie may not be quite as bad as Hillary, but he's close. OH WAIT. When you add up "Mostly False", "False", and "Pants on Fire" Bernie has 30% to Hillary's 29%. Oops. (Although if you weight POF worse than MF or F, Bernie does slightly better. The point is they are BOTH TYPICAL.)

Trump's are practically off the charts.

(3,585 posts)to them, he says whatever he wants to say at that very moment, to win that moment, with no regard for past or present.
You may notice that Trump never hesitates or reaches for words, he just says what sounds good for him for that moment, always counting on his ability to BS his way through any future adjustments that might be needed.
I think this lie sticks to him though, because it is in a form that even his followers can recognize as just a plain old fashioned lie and one that cracks their image of him a little bit.
BillZBubb
(10,650 posts)Trump's reckless. Like you said he just says what pops into his head.
Whether this one sticks or not is conjecture. He's already lied a lot and got a pass. There are much bigger things afoot in this country's political state of mind than this particular lie.
braddy
(3,585 posts)or president. By the way, why didn't you stick with Hillary as your example, since you compared her to Trump?
We have no idea what Trump's positions are because all we can do is try to find patterns, since he lies constantly about everything.
BillZBubb
(10,650 posts)If you have a candidate known to not be a liar and who the broad public views as trustworthy, that can be a good strategy. Our presumptive nominee doesn't have that reputation, so campaigning against trump based on the issue of lying is simply a wasted effort. Or worse, it would play into his name-calling, playground games.
Attack trump on his policy statements. He's against any action on climate change. He wants to deport millions of good, hard-working people. He's not presidential and would embarrass the country or worse. Etc. That's where he's vulnerable.
braddy
(3,585 posts)lies.
Wait until this primary is over and the DNC starts releasing their research on the 70 year life of Trump and starts hammering him and suddenly the media starts calling him on his lies in interviews, Hillary has politician's lies, policy and position changes etc, stuff that the public is used to, but there is nothing like Trump who just lies casually and throughout the day and on every topic.
BillZBubb
(10,650 posts)Hillary's trustworthy numbers are so low if she opens the "lies" can of worms she's going to get smashed. He's good at that game, she's not.

(3,585 posts)is coming after the primary, never.
You say he is good at the game, but he has never played the game, that is why he would never have allowed himself to get stuck in a one on one debate during the primary.
Trump knows how to play the crowd and manage a circus to keep himself from being pinned on facts, but he has never faced a one on one battle where he can't use his theatrics for 2 hours, or a billion dollar campaign against him combined with a hostile media that will suddenly quit playing games with him.

(36,827 posts)You have a case of someone employing sock puppetry to the media, then lying about it, then telling the truth about it under oath, then claiming it was a "joke", then basing the bulk of their campaign against their principal primary opponent with painting him as "lying Ted", then going on national television lying about it again even after being presented with evidence that he was previously cold hard busted for admitting it was a lie.
BillZBubb
(10,650 posts)Just observe what trump did. He used the "who's the big liar" game to his advantage. If the campaign is fought on his turf, the personal attack turf, he's going to win.
The fact that cruz is a regular liar made trump's job that much easier. Even if what he was attacking him for specifically wasn't true, trump won the race. Nobody doubted cruz was capable of the deed, so the charge stuck.
Major Nikon
(36,827 posts)Regardless of what Cruz was or wasn't his constant childish namecalling only adds to the hilarity, and if there's one thing that people despise more than a liar, it's a hypocrite. Trump is now both.
Neither do I agree that Trump's antics are going to play well with anyone outside his batshit crazy base of support. I've even had hard core Republicans tell me they will not vote for someone that childish. There's nothing presidential about it.

(10,650 posts)If it were found out, for instance, that he lied about wanting to build "A Wall!", that it was all just to get votes, he'd be badly damaged. I imagine most of his supporters understand he plays fast and loose with the facts, so they cut him a lot of slack because he's sticking it to people they don't like.

It makes no sense to me personally, but 'humanity' seldom does.
"H-hey guys. Donald lied. I totally think we should vote for the biggest globalist to run for office in years instead of the guy we just wrecked our entire party to get solely BECAUSE he wasn't a globalist/establishment lackey." I'm just not seeing it happen. As on anything, though, I may well be wrong (and hope I am). I've just run out of faith in 'people'.
