(12,904 posts)A wedge works to open a door. They can get people to vote for them based on the thinnest part of the wedge, ie. some meaningless bullshit issue (restroom access), and then when they get elected, they slide through the wide part of the wedge, ie. the really dangerous policy actions, like bogus wars or social security privatization, that have disastrous effects for the poor and middle class.
Other wedge issues include hatred of people of color, abortion, false claims of vote fraud.
They've got a new one every election cycle. This year seems to be peepee obsession.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
