Kentucky woman says man beat her for looking too masculine — as people stood by and watched

http://www.rawstory.com/2016/05/kentucky-woman-says-man-beat-her-for-looking-too-masculine-as-people-stood-by-and-watched/

A Paintsville, Kentucky woman said that she was attacked and brutally beaten on Thursday for looking too masculine.

In a post on her Facebook timeline, Brittany Nicole Wallace wrote, “Today I was assaulted. A man assaulted me because I look like a ‘dike’! He told me that he would ‘beat me like the man I want to be.’ He said, ‘people like me make him hate the world.'”...

Wallace said she tried to fight back, but her attacker was bigger and stronger. Bystanders, she said, never even lifted a finger to help.

“The sad part is that no one would come help me either. Several people stood around and watched this happen to me. Again, I truly believe that if I had a more feminine appearance someone would have helped,” she wrote.

"Too masculine"?!

Dress up in high heels, form fitting clothes, and makeup so they don't get beat up? And then, when raped, get blamed for "asking for it"? Misogyny (and racism and any kind of bigotry) is always shape shifting and contradictory so that any behavior (or look) you adopt just proves "it's your own fault."

As for those who stood by and watched, they are as bad as her attacker, IMO. Shame on them.

To sit around like sheep and do nothing whilst a crime is being committed right is front of them and another human being is being injured, indicates a breakdown in our society. That man was a coward and a bully, he singled out a young woman knowing she likely would not fight back.

Bullies can be stopped, they have such low self esteem that it doesn't take much to send them slinking away. I've done it myself, and once someone breaks out of the herd to speak out, others will follow, and bullies can't withstand any public criticism.

Who knows how this started or if people even knew she was female when the fight was happening.

Much more info needed. Maybe the bystanders had no idea it was a man fighting a woman and not two men fighting. Generally when two guys fight it is quite common for people to just stand by and do nothing.

I am not saying that is the case all I am saying is unless you were there it seems pretty over the top to claim a failure to get involved is an indication of the breakdown of our society.

There's no excuse for violence, none whatsoever. If there's any justice to be had, he will be charged with a hate crime.

A Paintsville police spokesperson told ATTN: that the assailant had been arrested and jailed following the incident. Wallace, the spokesperson said, was taken to a nearby medical center."

That people not jumping in to stop a fight is somehow indicative of a collapse of our society.

That fact that you choose to see that as defending one of the people involved in the fight is your hang up not mine.

The thread is there for all to read and no where in it did I defend either of the participants.

Not surprising at all that you are trying to pretend I said something different.

I just don't know how to process the single minded determination it takes to repeatedly defend a violent man who hates LGBT people so much that he's willing to risk being charged with a hate crime.

Battery is battery whether it is man on man, man on woman, woman on man, or woman on woman.

Standing around and letting one person attack another is reprehensible. If the bystanders didn't want to intervene themselves, they could have at least called 911.

Do you deny it? Is it common or not?

Has nothing to do with assault being ok. It has to do with it being an indication of a break down of our society.

And if it is an indication of a decline in society then I would be willing to bet that the incidents of people just watching have been going down and continue to do so.

And, with all of the negativity in the world, they take this as signs that it's OK to beat on others for whatever sick thought/justification comes into their twist F'ed up minds. Conservative estimates are about 25% of the US needs mental health counseling for one reason or another. I do not view the US as a well country. In fact, I really wonder where the US is headed.

The guy flipped into a rage and followed her after some parking lot jockeying or something like that, an altercation ensued, and it got violent.

The man is in jail, obviously.

The woman in the photo is to be pitied, but I don't think the attack happened because of the way she looked as she implies.
