(81,855 posts)But this place was at its strongest with the mods. Accountable humans making decisions. They weren't perfect, but they were fair.

(21,558 posts)It is needed. I had to opt out of the Jury system because of all the petty alerting coming form the primaries forums. I hope they do away with the current Jury system. It is broken and horribly abused, and a waste of time. It was a shame, I never had any issue with it, but the primary battle absolutely destroyed it in my mind.

(53,521 posts)Most DUers are Progressives and Progressives support Bernie. Skinner didn't "let" anything happen, most of us were here for over a decade.

(63,200 posts)The question arose because of the perceived disproportionate number of Clinton's supporters on FFR status, and Skinner replied by pointing out that a number of Sanders' supporters are also FFR. That seems to be a reasonable response consistent with observable reality.

(81,855 posts)That makes no sense. He's holding off until after the primary. What else do you want? Did you want to run a campaign against Hillary after the primary?
You also know that many of us that have been here a while have been on all sides of the Dean, Kerry, Clark, Clinton, Obama, Sanders, Clinton debates. We've been allies at times and enemies at times. We are no more or less progressive because we happen to agree or disagree in 2016.
And guess what? I bet the alliances will change in 2020 or 2024. That's just the way it is.

BTW, there is one very vocal person with no hides that is still flagged. http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=profile&uid=296000
I think the admins have a good sense about how to run this place. I always thought the juries were going to be a failure, but I think they really wanted out of the moderating business.

(41,694 posts)The reason no hidden posts show is that it's been over 90 days. I got two of those PM's from that poster. While I didn't report them other people did when they got them.

(24,692 posts)opposition as a partisan act in support of their favored candidate, and all the rabid partisans on their side would believe it. People on both sides are so polarized and so primed to believe any story that puffs up their candidate and tears down the other that it would be impossible to make any serious change and make it stick."

(17,469 posts)I am a Bernie supporter and I am pulling jury duty 1-2 times a day. I am mindful of my bias and make every attempt to be as fair as possible. That said, if I were to apply a strict definition of "rude" I would probably ban almost 100% of what I review.
I will hide when someone personally attacks another person, when someone generalizes bad behavior to "all group x", or is an obvious troll.
I can sometimes take 20 minutes to think over a decision, so it is taking a lot of my time. But, I would hope someone would give me the same courtesy.
I don't know what new system Skinner has in mind, but I do not envy him his current job.

It's been real fun over the last ten years but it looks like times are a changing and a bunch of us won't be welcomed anymore. That's fine, DU is a privately owned operation and the boss is free to do what he likes.
Good luck when the time comes.

(80,708 posts)A bunch of people got amnesty on their time outs and immediately proceeded to ramp up their obnoxious behavior to levels I don't think I've seen here in 12 years. But they forgot that they could still get stuck in suspension limbo, though, and would depend on the people who run this place to take them out of that penalty box.
..oops.
Not everyone on that list, not even entirely people from one "side"- but the folks I call the "transparency page all-stars" have been on a tear since the amnesty thing came down. Some of them figured out not to get a couple hides in a row, so they're still at it.
I personally am not big on excessive censorship and I actually think the jury system worked o.k. up until primary season, but I get that admin here are ready to change course with the way things are handled, and I can't say I blame them one bit.

(45,851 posts)The resulting clickstorm I'm sure was a nice bonus.
It's a real dilemma for Skinner, his associations and inclinations are toward the pragmatic moderate centrist portion of the political spectrum but the website he profits from will die a horrible death of strangulation without the more radical portion of it. We can get pragmatic moderate centrist pablum just about anywhere, there would be nothing special about DU any more if there even is at this point. I recently realized another site I used to visit at least daily for over a decade has fallen off my list entirely thanks to the Clinton Sanders split.
I feel like the only sober guy in the bar at last call, watching the drunks pair up without strong beer goggles can be painful.
