The video is believed to have been aired in the country in early February, 2016. The Kingdoms government is said to have approved the video, and that is why it was given airtime on national television.
After airing the video in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi government released the controversial video in the United States via the Washington DC-based Middle East Media Research Institute, in April 2016. Women activists group describe the video as nothing less than infuriating.
The content of the video features the doctor who is said to specialize in therapy; Khaled Al-Saqaby teaching men how to properly beat their wives if their (wives) disobey them.
We're allied with these people why, exactly?

Ain't religion grand?

(2,016 posts)A religion which clearly enunciates in its sacred texts (Quran+hadiths) that men are superior to women, and can beat their wives into submission if necessary has absolutely no need to make any adjustment to its doctrine, has it?
Which is good news as adjustments are bid'ah, innovations which are heretical in and of themselves. So I suppose women will just have to submit patiently. To suggest there is anything wrong with all this stuff would be islamophobia, and probably racism.

(21,506 posts)I certainly don't agree with beating your wife but in a country where wives are often brutally beaten this video advocates beating them with a tiny little tooth cleaning stick and it says the point is not to cause injury and should not be done in anger. It actually advocates against injury. Still wrong no question but in that particular country I would say it is progress.

The video you watched is sanctioned by an entire country. Saudi arabia and its imperialistic wahhabi ideology is going to be the scorn of the 21st century.

(19,705 posts)There's still the patriarchy, the misogyny, the pedophilia, the homophobia, and the absurdity like Islam, but when you're right you're right....at least it's not stuck in the 13th century. Being stuck in the 17th century is so much better, amirite?

How about a video on developing a loving relationship with your wive(s)? Too much work?

(87 posts)It's due to how men are physically stronger and more durable usually. This led to men thinking God must have designed them to be the superior sex, and that women were inferior and just for making babies. The opposite situation might have occurred if women were bigger and stronger(Like with black widow spiders for example). For all we know men would have been kept for mating and any extras would be killed off and eaten.

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
More Islamophobia on DU, as if Christians never beat their wives
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Thu May 19, 2016, 12:36 PM, and the Jury voted 0-7 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: False equivalence in the alert. So sorry you don't want to see what's actually happening in the world. Might want to just go ahead and unhook from the internet so you don't accidentally see any other facts/reality.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Alert abuse.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Oh come on... what the heck is with all the petty alerts lately? Perhaps the alerter should watch the entire video before doing this.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This alert a joke right? Instructional video on how to beat your wife and you can't question our alliance with such barbarians? How can anyone defend this?
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: If the reporter would like to highlight Christian actions of a similar nature they are free to do so.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: If the alerter has a "Christian" situation parallel to the Saudi situation (appalling video carried on the public airwaves with government endorsement), please bring it to the attention of the DU assembly, and we'll render a judgment. Otherwise, it sounds like the pulings of a WATB.
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

I guess about the same time our government decides to release those 28 pages about Saudi involvement in 9/11.
Bush/Cheney invaded the wrong country and they knew it.
