WINDOW STRIKE we lost a beautiful songbird today

I was watching a male Rose-breasted Grosbeak eating jelly today through the patio door. An Oriole scared him. In his panic he flew straight at me. He hit hard and dropped. It was over. He wasn't breathing. There was nothing we could do.

We do have stickers meant to warn birds about the glass. When they are panicked it doesn't help.

They don't mate for life. I hope his mate finds a new love once she realizes he won't be coming back to the nest. We only have a few of these delightful birds.

OS

You can see how they got their name.

To have it happen right in front of me....I needed to get my mind off it. We went out in the front yard and got our tiki fountain running. The kid down the street was very excited when he got home from school. He had been asking when we would get it working last week. Marta felt good enough to help today. The birds have missed their bath facility.
