...something like a plane crash happens versus their conduct in politics.
They media are suddenly much more professional news reporters, careful to specify when they or the talking heads "are speculating here" and careful to stress when initial reports have or have not "been confirmed", which they never do with politicians or policy-makers during their political coverage. I need not paint a picture of their political coverage for DUers, who already know that it is at least laughable and enraging, if not downright appalling in its darkness and horrifying in its evil.

(11,619 posts)Almost all campaign reporting are opeds. They are designed to drive opinion and keep their audience watching.
In news reporting, they follow stricter rules. They report Who, what, where when, and how.

(9,463 posts)...average Joe or Jane, not so much. Their political reporting is a propaganda machine that manipulates Joe and Jane into thinking a certain way and this evil is presented to them in the form of what looks like a newscast. Joe and Jane don't see it as opinion, they see it as news. Joe and Jane vote, and engage in discourse, accordingly.

(9,463 posts)...of 11:00 CDT they are acting like an actual news channel and not like a WWE-like political circus, with every fake move and every fake character and all the manufactured drama present and accounted for.
I finally tuned in to MSNBC about an hour ago to learn more about the Egyptair plane situation.

(1,000 posts)There was a distinct lack of due diligence in the MH17 and MH380 disasters, they pretty much regurgitated whatever the official line was, verbatim.

their most effective coordinated buzz generating tool for doing that has been unchallenged by the left for 25 years.
at a cheap $1000/hr x 15hrs/day x 1200 stations, rw talk radio is worth 4.68 BIL$/ year or 390MIL$ /month FREE for coordinated global warming denial, pro republican wall st think tank propaganda, free market deregulation bullshit, swiftboating, and the hate and fear used to get people to vote republican.

The coverage seems very disproportionate to the lives lost. We loose that many Vets to suicide in 2 and a half days, and probably 50,000% more per day to cancer.
The media reveals their agenda-driven-corporate-propaganda in their framing of the Nevada dispute. My frame is that the MSM reporting was taken out of context - like the 13 hour days - and and understandingly angry response to the tyrannical nd unfair and against their own rues of the Nevada DNC chair.
In this age of Rovian rat fucking on the Democratic side, it's interesting to see which journalists are on which side. The powers-that-be and the-establishment are coming into full view of the American people. More and more of us are catching on to being played for chumps by the Oligarchs. Who re really getting brazen and affording a clear view of the man-behind-the-curtain.

(4,290 posts)Plane crashes and other sudden disaster events boost ratings. They don't need to be sensationalized. At least not while the news is fresh (and I'm speaking to you, CNN).
On the other hand, partisan politics would be so boring that most viewers would switch to Netflix or other sources if not for the hype, rumor-mongering and other sensationalism.
These personalities are not journalists. They're salesmen for boner-pills, ambulance chasers and everything else they can hawk on the airwaves or coaxial.
