So. Amazon is opening a kiosk at the Green Acres Mall on Long Island.. does this

mean that they're officially "bricks and Mortar" and will be charging taxes on all purchases from customers in NY?

1. Interesting question. My bet is they have better tax lawyers than that.

Somewhat how Tesla gets around some state dealer laws. You can go to a Tesla Gallery in a bunch of places, but the sales transaction itself is handled directly not at the store in several states.

4. Amazon has been moving away from the no sales tax model for a few years now.

They realize is a losing battle. They've been shifting operations from locations best positioned to avoiding sales taxes to locations that better server customers with faster delivery, closer to major transportation hubs and the like.

But yes you can no longer assume they are tax free, especially on direct sales.
