Ten cases of mumps have been reported among students at Midland University in Fremont, the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services said Friday.

A health advisory sent to health care providers in Nebraska said the students involved had been vaccinated. It also advised that the outbreak could potentially spread to other areas as students return home for summer break.

The health advisory asked health care workers to be on the lookout for cases of mumps and to contact their local health department about suspected cases. The Three Rivers Public Health Department received the initial reports and is working with HHS to investigate the cases.

The first case was reported on April 16, and the most recent case was reported on May 13, the advisory said.

It swept through school, everyone had it. I first got it on one side, and just as I was getting better it popped out on the other side. The pressure really hurt, and I thought those glands would explode it was so bad. I couldn't eat, barely swallow, and avoided any movement of my head. The pressure made it impossible to lay down or get comfortable.

The old cartoons with people tying cloth on their heads were true. My grandma froze a wet strip of cloth to tied it on, and it instantly relieved the pressure. People are lucky to have the vaccines now,

All the other kids did, the teacher did, the sub did, and the sub's sub did and then they closed the school for a month.

I felt so left out.
