Poll: Trump trails Clinton by nearly 40 points with Latinos
Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump faces a serious challenge with Latinos, according to a Fox News Latino poll published Friday, trailing Hillary Clinton among those voters by nearly forty points.
Clinton leads Trump 62% to 23% with Latino voters, according the poll out Friday. And 74% said they have an unfavorable opinion of the likely Republican standard-bearer.
The steep numbers underscore Trump's challenge in the general election, with Latino voters -- one of the fastest-growing parts of the electorate -- particularly in swing states out West. Barack Obama beat Mitt Romney among Latinos by 44 points in 2012.
"Much was made during the 2012 election about Mitt Romney's dismal performance among Latino voters (27 percent)," Fox reports. "But Trump's current 23 percent ... paired with the 74% unfavorable rating has the real estate mogul facing a monumental task if he wants to win over Latinos."
Still, these voters are not exactly embracing Clinton. While better than Trump, Clinton is viewed favorably by 56% of Latinos compared to 41% who have an unfavorable opinion. And as the poll points out, Obama far outperforms either candidate, with 72% saying they have a favorable opinion of the president.

(1,858 posts)California, Texas and Florida are the biggest. It's pretty safe to guess which way California and Texas will go. Latinos in Florida that hate Trump is good news for the Democrats.

(23,156 posts)New Mexico, although I do recognize that our small population makes us almost meaningless. Makes me long for an actual popular election of a President, instead of the stupid Electoral College nonsense.
I also understand that Hispanics here are a lot different from those almost anywhere else. For one thing, almost half of this state is Hispanic. And their culture dominates.
I honestly have a lot of trouble understanding why anyone with half a brain, regardless of class, race, ethnicity, or any other marker, would support Trump. Maybe the multi-millionaires, but they're only a small percentage of the population.

(8,547 posts)if Trump sees Bernie as a threat.
Trump did the same thing with Cruz and Carson and Rubio that he's doing with Bernie. Trump is making nice comments about Bernie now just as he did about Cruz and Carson and Rubio when his biggest threats were Bush and Christie, but once Bush and Christie were out of the picture, it was Lying Cruz and so forth.
Bernie has his devoted followers but because the majority of voters and the media don't think Bernie can win the delegates needed to be president, Bernie is just being used by Trump as a way to criticize Hillary. If Bernie had been a real threat to Trump, Trump would be calling Bernie that thief who wants to take your money. And if the media thought Bernie could mathematically get the delegates he needs to be the nominee they would be much more critical in their analysis. As it is, they really aren't paying that much attention to Bernie, good or bad.

(23,156 posts)Granted, he's a total pig. But he'll use his pigginess to mock her, to belittle her, to denigrate her humanity. And while I am absolutely not a fan of hers, and no one would ever deserve what he'll do to her, it's folly to think she's so strong and above it all that he won't seriously damage her.
Bernie is a male. That immediately takes away 90% of what Trump would throw against Clinton.
Bernie and his supporters are unmoved by the words socialist or communist. Jane's connection to Burlington College is irrelevant.

(23,156 posts)Yes, I remember him. He was a phenomenally weak candidate.
If he's somehow your model of a candidate she can defeat, you should be shaking in your boots.
One thing that the Hillary people have forgotten is that in her two (OMG, was it only two?) elections she had extremely weak candidates. She really wasn't challenged in any significant way. Unfortunately, because of that, she and her surrogates think she's an amazing candidate who can overcome anyone. Horse pucky. Here's something else to keep in mind: back last year she started raising lots and lots of money, with the very specific intent of scaring away any potential rivals for the Democratic nomination for President. And it was largely, although not totally successful.
But more to the point, if she actually gets the nomination, she and all those around her will smugly assume it's because she's such a fabulous candidate. And they couldn't be more wrong. She's a crappy candidate. She was in 2000, in 2006, and in 2008. Right now the only thing she has going for her is the bullshit crap about how it's her turn. That's not how Presidential candidates should be chosen. And need I point out that polling shows she's a truly lousy candidate against Trump?

(25,406 posts)because Trump would immediately counter with the collapse of Burlington College and Jill Sanders' $200,000 payoff.
