Evangelicals DESPERATELY trying to convince themselves that Trump is devout Christian:

http://www.rawstory.com/2016/05/evangelicals-think-trump-uses-secret-hand-signals-to-show-hes-really-a-devout-christian/

In a Bloomberg report on Trump’s courting of the Evangelical vote, we learn that “at one recent meeting with Trump, evangelical leaders noted how he often flashes a signature hand gesture, with a thumb out and a finger point to the sky, as he enters and exits rallies.”

Why could this possibly matter, you ask? We’ll let Trump-supporting televangelist Pastor Mark Burns explain.

“You see athletes do it all the time and it’s their chance to point to the sky, to thank God for their success,” he told Bloomberg. “Trump does this all of the time, too. He’s giving reverence to the man upstairs. Even with Mr. Trump’s billions of dollars, he too still submits himself to God.”

--------------

"He points his finger! Did you see that? He points his finger at the sky!

Donald Trump is a devout Christian!

He doesn't know the Bible, but he points his finger at the sky!

He is a selfish and greedy man who does not care about the meek and the poor, but he points his finger at the sky!

He doesn't turn his other cheek but insults and belittles anybody who draws his ire, but he points his finger at the sky!

He points his finger at the sky!!!

My dear brothers, we should vote for Donald Trump. You may abhor what he says and you may abhor what he does and you may abhor what he represents, but he points his finger at the sky."

evangelicals mean by "Christian" is certain behaviors that don't include things like several wives. So, if they find it in their, um, hearts to back Trump, their issue is not Christianity, as they define that word.

I, for one, am shocked.

If they'd stayed married and simply accumulated multiple wives, that would be preferable. Lots of Biblical leaders had multiple wives.

They also don't care about King David and Solomon having a shitload of wives.

As long as they favor someone then "God has forgiven all his sins" and that's the end of it.

Trump is not even making an effort to pretend he knows (or respects) the Bible.

And evangelicals want to call him their own? Good luck with that

The GOP has saddled itself with the burden of the anti-science evangelicals.
As religiosity decreases, the evangelicals are becoming more and more of a GOP liability.

And Trump is many things, fickle, abusive, macho, egotistical, but racist?
I think it's just blue collar populism: law, order and protecting jobs.

Having a rational discussion about what is "racism" or who might be "racist" is pretty hard these days.

Not saying that is an issue with your replies.

I don't toss the terms around a lot because they are so overworn and people get all emotional over them, either way. Further, we all have our biases and the such.

That said ...

I think in terms of having ill feelings toward people of color, I don't think that is necessarily the case with Trump. He has a general disdain for ANYONE not the Donald that covers most of that.

But, he most certainly has a LOT of, and very hard and fast, categorizations relative to people generally, and based on color and nationality.

The dude is Archie Bunker in expensive suits.

In this instance religion is used to enable politics, not to advise it. Once under the banner of "righteousness", the sky's the limit. A vulgar, lying, and bullying candidate such as Donald Trump? Policies that enable and intensify income inequality and poverty? No problem. It's all in the label.

I have little respect for right-wing Evangelicals' hand-signal analysis. They're voting for the Donald because of their fear of the "other" and because they're just as happy with steel-toed boots on the necks of the poor and down-trodden as their more secular right-wing buddies.

Having inadvertently come across the dreck many religious right "researchers" spew about Hillary, who is a church-going Methodist, I don't doubt they'd use the same bogus "methodology" to "prove" that Hillary is a practicing Satanist.
