The Harry F. Byrd middle school Senators are now the Quioccasin Griffins
There was some talk about renaming the middle school after Mr. Griffin but the school board decided in Quioccasin ("meeting place"
. I think this is a very nice way to honor Mr. Griffin.
Harry F. Byrd Middle School, which will become Quioccasin Middle School on July 1, has chosen a new mascot.
The Griffins will replace the Senators once the name change goes into effect, Principal Cheri Guempel announced Sunday to students and staff.
The name honors Neil Griffin, a Henrico County police officer who attended the school and served as its school resource officer for about nine years. He died of cancer March 8.
