Bookings at Trump Hotels Plummet

Bookings at Trump Hotels Plummet

By Priceonomics Data Studio

http://priceonomics.com/bookings-at-trump-hotels-plummet/

"SNIP..............

The Trump brand is associated with a variety of hotels, apartments, and products. On one hand, a growing number of political supporters could boost sales of Trump products; on the other, a growing number of political detractors could lead people to avoid his brand. So which of these two forces is stronger?

To answer this question, we analyzed hotel data from Hipmunk, a Priceonomics Customer. Focusing on Trump Hotels’ most-booked locations, we compared bookings this year to the previous year (before Trump attracted national political attention).

The results? Bookings at Trump Hotels are down big time: they have decreased 59% compared to the same period last year on Hipmunk. It seems that customers willing to spend $500 a night on a Trump Hotel room may not be fans of Trump the political candidate.

***

While overall Hipmunk hotel bookings have been on the rise year-over-year, that has not been the case with bookings of Trump Hotels.

He'll just claim bankruptcy again.

Or maybe his lenders will cut him a good deal because without the Trump name on the hotels, they're just big boxes filled with fast funiture.

I chose it because it's smoke free and there's no casino. So you can actually breathe in there. In hotels where smoking is allowed in the casinos even the non-smoking rooms reek. So it was a great find for me.

Today I wouldn't darken the doorway. Nice to know I'm not alone.

But that definitely would be a plus. (Not outweighing the Trump aspect now, however.)

The only times I've stayed in Vegas it was for a conference for work, and I stayed with my group. At the Venetian. Or was it the Palazzo? Anyway having to walk through the casino to get anywhere was really annoying. Not to mention, assuming you could actually find one to buy, an apple would cost $3. (ONE apple). A freakin' pastry for breakfast was like $8. I don't mean room service, either.

I was thinking if I go to this shindig again I might check out the Best Western around the block ...

for a casino license.

Which is false: http://www.snopes.com/nevada-gaming-denied-trump/ It sounds like a business decision more than a licensing issue.

But I still like the meme and for people to understand that he's not to be trusted. He's had casino problems in other areas and legal battles in the past.

There are plenty of hotels in the LV area that are not attached to casinos, and many people go there and never step foot in a casino if we can help it.

The chart below compares the percentage of bookings on Hipmunk for Trump Hotels’ most popular locations in 2015 (before his campaign received much attention) to the percentage of bookings in 2016 (as the campaign receives ample media attention).

Well Trump was not running for President in 2015 Q1 so no shit his campaign wasn't getting much attention, it didn't exist. That mistake alone really makes me question if the author knows what he or she is talking about. Moreover there seems to be a selective exclusion of the data between 2015 Q1 and 2016 Q1. Why was data from 2015 Q2,Q3 and Q4 excluded? My guess it that it did not show a negative trend that the author claims is there.

Another point I don't understand is why use percentage of bookings instead of number of booking. The actual number of bookings could be exactly the same between 2015 Q1 and 2016 Q1. Hell it could have actually increased! A decrees in percent of bookings could just mean more people are using Hipmunk to book other hotels at a greater rate than Trump Hotels. Keep in mind all this data is from people who use Hipmunk to book their hotel, not the actual numbers.

I'm no fan of Trump, fuck that guy. But this is just a fluff piece to get more people using Hipmunk. The actual analysis is piss poor.
