http://thinkprogress.org/politics/2016/05/27/3782503/donald-trump-anti-semitism-tweets/Donald Trump has an anti-Semitism problem.
Granted, the newly minted Republican nominee for president has long insisted that his is not himself anti-Semitic, and regularly points out that his daughter is a Jewish convert. Yet Trump has done little to quell a rising tide of anti-Semitism among his supporters since launching his campaign last year: Trump initially refused to disavow anti-Semitic Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke, a Trump surrogate implied at a rally that Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders should convert from Judaism and meet Jesus, prominent anti-Semites went on radio shows to encourage their supporters to "get out and vote" for Trump, and a man was filmed leaving a Trump rally shouting in Cleveland shouting Go to fucking Auschwitz.
To make matters worse, anti-Semitic white supremacists recently announced that they view Trumps relative silence on the issue as an endorsement.
This surge of anti-Semitism has been unsettling to many, but is hitting one group especially hard: Jewish political reporters who cover Trump, many of whom who say they are regularly subject to anti-Semitic harassment by his supporters online.

Der Drumpfenfuhrer's brownshirts are there. Some are visible at the Nuremburg-style rallies. Most are online. For now.

(2,003 posts)but claims of anti-semitism on behalf of Trump's campaign are dubious, at best. C'mon, we're talking about a guy who wants to kick Muslims out of the country.

New York Times staffer tweets out op-ed critical of Trump, faces anti-Semitic avalanche
By Erik Wemple May 19
Last night, Jonathan Weisman tweeted out an opinion piece from The Post by Robert Kagan: This is how fascism comes to America. Via Trump, that is. This is how fascism comes to America, not with jackboots and salutes (although there have been salutes, and a whiff of violence) but with a television huckster, a phony billionaire, a textbook egomaniac tapping into popular resentments and insecurities, and with an entire national political party out of ambition or blind party loyalty, or simply out of fear falling into line behind him, writes Kagan.
A deputy Washington editor at the Times, Weisman included a portion of that sentence in his tweet along with another tweet on a related topic and let it fly. Hatred responded.

Weisman documented what happened next, and here is just a sampling
used to it you fucking kike. You people will be made to pay for the violence and fraud you've committed against us.

The first article quotes a speech Trump gave to a Jewish organization that he received a standing ovation for!
If we're playing the anti-semitism card this early in the campaign over such dubious allegations, then we're in fucking trouble.

(42,271 posts)"Trump also faced boos from the crowd when in the question-and-answer portion of his appearance he would not pledge to keep Jerusalem as the undivided capital of Israel.
"I want to wait until I meet with Bibi," Trump said, referring to his upcoming meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when Trump is scheduled to visit the country later this month.
As he faced boos, Trump fired back at the crowd, singling out one man who booed Trump: "Who's the wise guy? Do me a favor, just relax, OK?""
And read the other articles as well before defending the creep.

(58,785 posts)We know that some Democrats are conservatives who vote Republican for president, and most or all other offices. That's just a fact. Then there are all the Sanders supporters who are conservative.
Still, it just seems very strange to see people here on DU make excuses for Trump and call reports of his behaviors lies. "Standing ovation," huh? Good luck peddling that to people here.

(53,947 posts)Your attack on the anti-semitism of "the Left" belongs in RedState.com.
And you're seriously arguing that if Trump hates all people of one religion, how could he possibly be prejudiced against another religion?
I honestly don't get what makes people like you think they're doing their cause any good by trolling through liberal discussion boards. But enjoy your stay, princess.

I can't wait for the revised rules coming after the primaries.

(53,921 posts)Trump's dog-whistling bigotry is attracting all kinds of bigots, so it isn't surprising the anti-Semites are flocking to him too. Is Trump himself an anti-Semite? I don't think so, but he does espouse some anti-Semitic rhetoric and ignores others, which can be just as bad as being a full-on anti-Semite. Thing is, the left sees this type of "quiet" anti-Semitism (telling Jews to "go back to Israel" (and variations of it, implying dual-loyalty, or primary loyalty to Israel), Jews and 9-11, Jews are to blame for anti-Semitism against them because of Israel, etc.). The real issue is most people don't even know what anti-Semitism is and with so many people trying to redefine it, it becomes even more convoluted. Too many simply think anti-Semitism is limited to "kike" (or other anti-Semitic slurs) and painting swastikas on synagogues, when it is so much more.
To make matters worse, anti-Semitic white supremacists recently announced that they view Trumps relative silence on the issue as an endorsement.
It does make one wonder. Just because he has a Jewish daughter, doesn't mean he is now "exempt" from being anti-Semitic or being an anti-Semite, it is simply another version of the "some of my best friends are..." trope.

(53,921 posts)It really is that simple in their minds. Black supremacists are the same way; they refer to "white people and Jews". It goes way back, but a 'recent' example would be immigration to the US and other Western nations which had quotas for certain countries and Jews, as a separate category.
