Florida cop surprises homeless man with lunch

?w=423&h=450

Officer Acosta tells 7News that he went to grab lunch for two people and then came back to eat hot dogs with Robert. The officer sat down and had a 20 minute conversation with the man and spoke about each other’s life and how he became homeless.

Robert told the officer that he was battling cancer and has had several surgeries on his leg. After that, Robert lost his home and has not been successful in finding another job and getting back into society.

Officer Acosta said he enjoys helping others and likes to chat with others about issues as it helps bridge the gap between the police and homeless community.

However, I often hand any money out or buy someone lunch quite often. I'm not too far behind as to where they are... And I do this. Many in our society do. It's only the greedy asses at the top that want it all and never want to pay their fair share back into society.

have purchased food for homeless people.

One time that sticks in my mind... A young man was sitting on a curb between my bank and a shopping center. I got the feeling that he was a veteran. I had to drive by him, but had no cash and not enough money in my account to make a $20 ATM withdrawal. So I chatted with him for a minute and then drove to a nearby Chinese restaurant and got him a combo meal because they tend to serve large portions. It was about $7.

When I drove back to where he had been, I was grateful to see he was still there.

I handed him the bag and said, "I hope you like Chinese." He gave me the most beautiful smile and said, "Ma'am, I LOVE Chinese!"

Most people accepting cash donations say "God bless you" or some variation, which is fine but I don't donate for blessings or thanks. I do it because "there but for the grace of whatever fate go I." That said, that young man's smile and delighted "I love Chinese!" was a generous thanks indeed.

Sometimes it is too easy for us to make sweeping generalizations. Hillary supporters are THIS, we snarl. Bernie supporters are THAT. Cops are THE OTHER THING.

But, no one is always anything. Even in the soulless, evil systems we have created there are people who are basically decent, and would rather do the right thing.

None of us is perfect, but all of us have the capacity for great good, mediocrity or great evil. We must watch ourselves and try to be wise in each situation as it arises. Here's a guy who chose for this moment on this day to do good. It got posted and now there will be some good and positive ripple effects.

What government OUGHT to be for is to take care of people. Period.

Oh, and to defend us if we are actually threatened
