seeing tiny bits of it. I'll wait until the reviews come in.

after watching this one for several hours. Each character is a stereotype; to my memory, in the old series the roles were more nuanced.

The photography is beautiful.

with better photography. That is true but the cast seems not to be as good as the former cast. Since I am not watching it I will refrain from saying much but I have yet to see a remake as good as the original. OK, I am old now but I am willing to see better. I guess with this one I just do not see the need to watch it.

Thanks, enjoy.

I believe I still have the Beta tapes somewhere, but the machine to play them is LONG gone.

Don't worry about spoilers, I read the novel before I watched the original series.

I like the portrayal of the village more so than in the original. I still hold my puto the same way I did with the original when the boys are circumcised.

I read the book in 1976. One of those life impacting stories that takes your breath away. The first TV adaptation was outstanding, but left out a lot when it began with Kunta's capture. I enjoyed seeing the part in the story that took place in Africa, as it was an effective and enjoyable part of the book. It's the real "roots" of the story.
I didn't feel good about a remake since the first Roots was so amazing and ground breaking, but the first episode won me over. Also, it's time to read the book again because it's sad how much I've forgotten about an unforgettable book.
