Paris mayor announces plan to set up refugee camp

PARIS, France - A camp for migrants will be set up in the north of Paris within six weeks, said the Mayor of the French capital.

According to reports, Anne Hidalgo said that the exact location of the camp will be announced in a few days.

She said, “We have identified several sites in the north of Paris in which we can create a centre… conforming to UN conditions. I hope that it will provide both a day care centre to assess people’s situation and also a site that allows the accommodation of those arriving destitute.”

Hidalgo said that she had been inspired by the work at Grande-Synthe in Dunkirk on France’s northern coast.
