Payday lenders get a new ally.
03/01/2016 11:04 am ET | Updated May 17, 2016

WASHINGTON — Payday lenders have been gunning for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau since the day President Barack Obama tapped Elizabeth Warren to set up the new agency. They’ve had plenty of help from congressional Republicans — longtime recipients of campaign contributions from the payday loan industry. As the CFPB has moved closer to adopting new rules to shield families from predatory lending, the GOP has assailed the agency from every conceivable angle — going after its budget, attempting to tie its hands with new layers of red tape, fomenting conspiracy theories about rogue regulators illegally shutting down businesses and launching direct attacks on payday loan rules themselves.

To date, the GOP blitz has resulted in a few close shaves for the young agency, but no actual defeats. But the industry has cultivated a powerful new ally in recent weeks: Democratic National Committee Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.).

Wasserman Schultz is co-sponsoring a new bill that would gut the CFPB’s forthcoming payday loan regulations. She’s also attempting to gin up Democratic support for the legislation on Capitol Hill, according to a memo obtained by The Huffington Post.

LISTEN to HuffPost’s analysis of the bill in the latest episode of the “So That Happened” politics podcast below. The discussion begins at the 53:35 mark:

Many Third Way Dems are quite content to watch the financial 'industry' cruelly exploit our people - our brothers, sisters, children and grandchildren.

It has to end, doesn't it? That means you, me and millions of others must become active, participate in campaigns and then continue to be active in local politics. If we do not like Third Way people, then we must begin at the grass roots level to replace those who only pretend to represent us.

We form a Super PAC to buy her! We can just buy her to fire herself, I am sure she already has some cushy high paying Wall Street gig lined up. Hell, they hired Eric Cantor and doesn't know jack about banking!

We just have to legally bribe enough Congress Critters to pass Publicly Funded Elections and problem solved. Eh, except one thing, it would have to be one really big bribe to get them to end all bribes!

So, of course, any criticism, warranted or not, is a rw (or Bernie) smear.

If she were a Bernie backer, I'm sure she would have been gone already. (In fact the DNC chair is supposed to be neutral in the primary, but she clearly is not).

The "all-criticism-of-Hillary-is-a-rw-smear" brigade extends it to her backers in the party as well. I swear, Ted Bundy could endorse Hillary and they would say he had been framed. The disconnect is that great.

Typical corporate republican posing as a democrat.
