to celebrate Jefferson Davis' birthday; his actual birthday (3 June) is a legal holiday in Florida
He was born in Kentucky, raised in Mississippi and Louisiana, and was a congressman and senator for Mississippi before becoming president of the confederacy, which had its capitol in Alabama briefly until May 1861, when Davis moved it to Virginia
His connection to Florida seems even slighter: some of his belongings had been shipped there before he was finally captured in Georgia
