Mom Posts Topless Selfie To Reveal Victims Of HB2 That Supporters Didn't Expect

http://aplus.com/a/christi-salcedo-breast-cancer-transgender-bathroom?

A 32-year-old breast cancer survivor bravely shared a photo of her chest on Facebook after having a double mastectomy and getting her lymph nodes removed. She posted her photo to show that "the great bathroom debate of 2016 has hurt more than just the transgender community."

Christi Salcedo is a Texas mom who was diagnosed with Stage 3 invasive ductal carcinoma. After she chose to forgo reconstruction surgery, she says she began noticing people staring at her in ways that made her feel uncomfortable while in shops and other public places. She speculated that they were wondering if her flat chest indicated that she was transgender, and if, by extension, she might possibly be legally obligated to use a different public restroom.

"I notice more eyes trying to figure me out," she wrote. "At the grocery store, restaurants... Walmart was the worst. I want to scream, 'YES! You are seeing it right! This is breast cancer... Please check yourself!' But instead I let my eyes meet theirs in an almost plea for a change in what has become our society."

North Carolina's House Bill 2, which limits people to using only the public bathrooms associated with the gender they are assigned at birth, has propelled a national debate about the rights of transgender people. While proponents of North Carolina's controversial bill say that they are trying to protect children from sexual harassment, LGBT advocates note that the law's negative impact on transgender people is significant.

Salcedo suggests that cancer survivors have been among the law's victims as well, and says she would like to close the book once and for all on the discussion.

"I am personally of the belief that no transgender person wants to cause trouble in a bathroom," she wrote. "People just want to use the restroom."

Things don't go so well for women who don't look womanly enough. Conservative women have called security on these types of women already.

I was born here, raised here. My family is here. I'm living in Canada now but my wife and I want to retire here. There is are also strong gay communities here, from the theme parks to South Beach, and Key West. I don't want these assholes making life more difficult or my LBGT friends. But I would like to offer them front row seats to the Guavaween Parade... their wittlebitty bwains would implode

North Florida is already full of conservatives, but you'll also have to wall up the northern border to keep them out of the rest of the US

The whole bathroom thing is a non-issue and the 'christian' stance on it is downright offensive. If I'm ever in a store and I see a guard by the restrooms, I'm going to speak to the store manager and tell that person that I won't be buying anything in their store until they quit catering to religious nuts.

May this young woman stay forever cancer free.

This is the society certain politicians are crafting.

As much as I don't care for Clinton it has become apparent that Trump is far worse from the perspective of making bigotry A-OK (among other things).

That being said, this is a broken Democracy.

It really pisses me off to see such blindingly idiotic descimination. The one upside(?) to this is perhaps if enough non-trans people get accused hopefully people will realize how wrongheaded this law is. It's far too damaging in the meantime, though.

For shame, the idiots are taking over.

Transgender people should be able to use the restroom, dressing room, locker room where they feel safe in AND all WOMEN should feel/BE safe. We must not swing to extremes, sacrifice security to blindly comply with the law because we might make a mistake. IF you have a REAL SAFETY CONCERN/FEAR about a person. IF they are acting suspiciously, out of the norm......Then NO ONE should be afraid to contact security. Better safe than sorry. Now it has to be a legitimate concern. Not because you THINK the person might be transgender or gay. Not because the person looks masculine/male. Not because you don't like the way the person is dressed. The person has to be acting in a way that suggests their interest/intent seems to be focused on harassing, causing harm to the other occupants which is ILLEGAL. If your gut instinct is telling you something is wrong, flee the area and contact security. Because sometimes your instincts are correct. I recently read a story about a swim center in New York state where the locker rooms are open to transgender people and a members of a girls swimming team are afraid to use the woman's locker room (they use a small family locker room) because there is a bald man with a beard who uses the shower/locker room. The staff of the swim center are aware of this person but claim they can not, by law, challenge this person's identity for fear they might be discriminating on the basis of sexual identity/transgendering. So the dilemma, is this person transgender or some old balding fart who wants to spy on naked women/girls and/or expose his genitals in the process? So the person might be transgender with a legal right to be there or the person is a possible sex offender, there ILLEGALLY as a voyeur/flasher. Too many laws are reactionary, legislated out of fear, and harmfully flawed. There needs to be common sense laws flexible enough to balance public safety with privacy. One should not be sacrificed for the other as seems to be the case at the swim center.

are male parents taking their daughters into the mens room and masculine looking women and now flat-chested women (due to nature or cancer). I've yet to read a story where a transgender person has been turned away from the bathroom (not to say they won't). My point, is this bill in NC is having an effect nationwide that isn't good.

so they need to be all up in someone else's personal lives.

Plus they have ideas in their heads of how a woman should look like, or how an American should look like, and seeing people that don't fit into that box seems to bother them for some reason.
