GOP "will be stuck dealing with the latest Trumpism every interview of every day, of every month"

"That was just painful," said one Republican official who served in George W. Bush's administration. The official added that the reality is McConnell -- and Ryan and every Republican in a leadership position or facing an election challenge -- "will be stuck dealing with the latest Trumpism every interview of every day, of every month until November."

nomination of Bush and the manner in which the Conservative establishment rallied around him and spent years spinning that cynical nonsense about how he was qualified and any criticism of his intelligence was just the pompous blathering of the "liberal elitists" that normalized this kind of idiocy in national politics and paved the way for Trump.

There's a direct line from Bush to Palin to the likes of Michelle Bachmann and the rest of the idiots in Congress who had no business holding elected office to Trump.
