Gingrich in pole position to join Trump presidential ticket, say conservatives

Republican sources believe billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson will
boost Newt Gingrich’s chances of becoming the vice-presidential nominee

Newt Gingrich’s prospects of joining the Republican presidential ticket as Donald Trump’s running mate are expected to get a boost from mega donor Sheldon Adelson, say three conservatives with links to Gingrich or the casino billionaire.

Adelson has pledged $100m to back Trump’s White House bid – and the sources familiar with Adelson and Gingrich said they think close ties between the two men who share ardent and hawkish pro-Israel views, should help the former House speaker’s chances.

Adelson has long been close to Gingrich, who had a hand in convincing him to back Trump last month, and the Las Vegas mogul is known as a hands-on donor.

“Given Adelson’s respect for Newt and that Gingrich encouraged Adelson to back Trump, it would make sense that Adelson has been pushing Gingrich for vice-president,” said one senior Republican operative who talks to Gingrich fairly often.

$100 mm will certainly buy a lot of lipstick to put on those two pigs, but it will not convert sows ears to silk purses.

I mean, he's had #3 for a couple of years. Time to embrace Republican Values, and trade for a younger, dimmer model. No doubt the Trumpster is HOT for Newtie to embrace that kind of a shrewd move, which would go over Yuuuge with the Republican-Trump Morality Brigade.

A day after former Newt Gingrich called Donald Trump's latest comments on Judge Gonzalo Curiel "inexcusable," the presumptive Republican nominee fired back at the former House speaker, who has largely been supportive of his candidacy.
"As far as Newt is concerned, I saw Newt," Trump told "Fox & Friends" on Monday after the show played clips of Hillary Clinton and Gingrich denouncing his remarks speculating that Curiel's Mexican heritage represented a conflict of interest in the cases against Trump University over which he is presiding. "I was surprised at Newt. I thought it was inappropriate what he said."

Not "loser", not "disgraced hasbeen", not "serial adulterer"... just "in-apropos"

That makes me think Trump's keeping Newt on the short list. Why? I assume he wants a Trump Golf Course on the moon colony

Maybe it's the whole "thinking" part that's throwing you off. You don't ask a mugger for compassion.

I don't get the sense that he really is anymore. This mega-donor guy might be a big fan but I don't think that will be enough.

This story was probably floated by Gingrich himself.

The only problem is that Trump is having a hell of a time finding someone willing to run with him. Amazingly, putting Ben Carson on the job didn't do a damn thing to expand his appeal to qualified insiders. Anyone worth having is basically either "taking one for the team" or banking on impeachment. Plus, Trump being broke, and needing to unify the Republicans and mollify the hard righties somehow, giving into Adelson's demands might be his best move.

But what do I know. In my whole adult life I've only been impressed with Republican VP nominations two times--Jack Kemp and Paul Ryan--and both of them lost. I'm feeling better about Clinton's nomination, btw

Yeah, that's really going to help Trump's problem with female voters.
