(the comments at wonkette are worth reading. the father of this rapist is so clueless that there really are no words to explain (well, words that can be used in polite company, anyway. 20 minutes of out the rapist's life--not one damned word about the rapist's victim)
let's talk about college campus drinking culture and the sexual promiscuity that goes along with that baby
Did Your Son Rape A Woman? We Mean Drink Excessively And Do Promiscuity To Her?

gonna do some campus drinking culture and the sexual promiscuity that goes along with it all night!
Perhaps you were on the Internet this weekend. If so, presumably you already read the holy shit Buzzfeed letter that the woman who was raped at Stanford wrote to her rapist, young, nerdy Brock Turner. She is a really good writer! It was a holy shit letter! If you havent read it, head on over, and well see you back here in
hmmmm, about 20 minutes. Okay, scoot!
So, that was an excellent letter. It made you sad, and angry, and punch something. It was very evocative! You really felt like you were there! Maybe you, like the Swedes on bicycles, would have stopped the rape behind the dumpster. Maybe you would have called someone else for help! Maybe you would have done neither of those things, but instead would inform everyone that alcohol causes promiscuity. Lets find the relevant portion of this womans letter to the man who raped her, which she read aloud in open court.
Unfortunately, after reading the defendants report, I am severely disappointed and feel that he has failed to exhibit sincere remorse or responsibility for his conduct. I fully respected his right to a trial, but even after twelve jurors unanimously convicted him guilty of three felonies, all he has admitted to doing is ingesting alcohol. Someone who cannot take full accountability for his actions does not deserve a mitigating sentence. It is deeply offensive that he would try and dilute rape with a suggestion of promiscuity. By definition rape is not the absence of promiscuity, rape is the absence of consent, and it perturbs me deeply that he cant even see that distinction.
We dont need to belabor this, do we? Brock Turner has been found guilty of three violent felonies; pine needles and dirt were removed from the vagina of the woman who wrote the letter, after he raped her on the gravel behind a dumpster; he admits only to drinking and promiscuity. We are all clear that this is
an inadequate response?
. . . .

Yes, I know: two wrongs don't make a right, but justice was not served in this case. And justice is supposed to be blind.
The dad?
Karma might just have to wait until the next reincarnation. Garden slug? Dung beetle? Other invertebrate?
And as for the judge?
Recall. Which is already being sought.

(113,284 posts)I wish for the judge, the rapist and the rapist's apologist father, everything they deserve.

(16,095 posts)horrible people. The young man was clearly never taught to take responsibility for his actions.
The sentencing was just wrong.
But, I take hope in one thing, one small, but important thing.
He was convicted unanimously. Juries so often don't convict on rape, so that is a small bit of good poking out of this horrible thing.

(63,221 posts)Have you ever heard anything more disgusting in your life? Obviously, we see where this piece of trash gets his morals from.
I hope both their lives become a living hell. I have been on other boards where this father/son duo has been universally condemned, as well as the judge. As usual, DU doesn't seem to have too much of a problem with it.

(20 posts)You see a passed out woman somewhere. What do you do?
Options:
1-Get help for here.(The ethical and proper answer)
2-Do nothing and MYOB.(The selfish answer if you want to avoid potential liability or harm to yourself.)
3-decide to rape her.(wtf is wrong with you).
There's no possible justification for even thinking #3 is the right option. The guy who raped her is either some kind of perverted sociopath, or something went VERY wrong in his upbringing.
And I read he raped her with an object? That makes it even more disturbing. This wasn't even about sex most likely. He just wanted to violate and degrade his victim for some reason. Probably a future serial killer in the making.
smirkymonkey
(63,221 posts)And you are right about her being raped with an object. This wasn't about uncontrolled sexual desire, this was an act to violate and degrade the victim. Plus, he ran when he was approached by the two Swedish men who tried to help her. This proves that he knew that he was committing a crime and trying to escape retribution.

(34,169 posts)I understand why defense lawyers are despicable and father's are in denial or lie, but the judge should have seen right through those manipulations.
Sadly the judge seemed to buy into it.

The good news is that the rapist planned on being a surgeon. I don't think he'll find a medical school that will take a registered sex offender.

(21,691 posts)I'm a little tempted to do "20 minutes of action" to, say, the Turners' vehicles with a sledgehammer and see if they can find forgiveness for me; after all, it was just 20 minutes out of 51 blameless years, and I'm from a very good family ...
(In case there's any doubt, no I'm not threatening to actually commit property damage against anyone. My arthritis is too bad to do 2 minutes of action with a sledgehammer, let alone 20.)
