Why can't we have someone like this as our president?
Shouldn't we have the best of what Americans have to offer,
instead of having to choose between the most attention seeking, greedy, corrupt egomaniacs?

(5,737 posts)John Oliver is a TV host, just like Trump. Please do not confuse TV shows with real life. Those TV reality shows are scripted, just like the script John Oliver goes by.

Even if he became a naturalized citizen, only native-born citizens are eligible to become Presidents.

(12,153 posts)born in Mexico. His parents were U.S. citizens, which according to some interpretations of "natural born" made George eligible to try to become the republican party's presidential nominee in 1968.
Barry Goldwater was born in Arizona before it became a state.
And of course, there's McCain.
But John Oliver is neither a native born nor a natural born U.S. citizen. In fact, the last I read, he was still here on a green card.

(40,416 posts)However, I would not presume that. I might assume that you are just being arbitrary.
When I was in high school in the the early 60's in Detroit a required course was Civics where we actually learned the US Constitution. Some people apparently haven't had that benefit. That is very sad.
Folks ignorant of these things have no call for comment.
The US Constitution is the law of the land. The UK has no constitution, which may be a problem for them. The UK also has a parliamentary government which is your advantage, a possibly working government, something the US has not had for nearly eight years, mainly because our POTUS is black and the GOP does not like non-whites.
My best to you.
