Lakeland police officers are investigating after someone saw what appeared to be a human body in an alligator's mouth on Tuesday afternoon.
The alligator swam away but officials have recovered the body, police said.
It's not clear if the person was attacked by the gator.
Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission trappers are on scene trying to catch the gator.
