I believe that a lot of the energy behind the Trump movement is simply misplaced anger. Trump saw an opportunity, and took it. He became so successful by giving his base something to blame, like minorities, etc. This kind of Charismatic takeover always follows close behind legitimate frustration.

you very rarely get a major Republican the last 30-40 years to admit that something another major Republican said or did is actually racist out loud and on the record. I think the last time was when David Duke won the GOP primary in Louisiana back in what, the early 90s?

He's stuck between Hillary/Bernie, whom he could never side with, and Trump, who for obvious reasons is a...difficult candidate to endorse. Not to mention that third party runs have been forever shamed by party establishment. Very interesting dilemma...
