Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) may seek the removal of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) as the head of the Democratic National Committee this week in a meeting with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Yahoo News reported, citing aides who are helping set up the meeting.
Weve been in listening mode for the most part, the aide said. [Reid is] going to be hearing what Bernies ideas are for bringing the party together and hoping he comes with some ideas.
On Tuesday, the Vermont legislator said he would continue to campaign for the partys presidential nomination despite losing primaries in California, New Jersey, and South Dakota to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Sanders will reportedly meet with Reid on Thursday, the same day he is expected to meet with President Barack Obama, amid calls for him to end his campaign.
Tensions between Sanders and Wasserman Schultz rose last month, when he not only criticized her following a clash at the partys Nevada convention, but endorsed Tim Canova, who is challenging her for her congressional seat.
The aide said Reid would be open to hearing [Sanders] out regarding replacing Wasserman Schultz.

(39,374 posts)Meaningless inside baseball crap to the vast majority of voters at the end of the day. She's gone on Jan. 1 anyway. If I had capital to spend, it wouldn't be on settling scores with DWS.

(10,533 posts)That Politico article painting him as bitter and vindictive is starting to look more credible by the day. If his only goal at this point is to collect scalps, he is totally wasting his remaining leverage and betraying his supporters' trust.

(15,369 posts)and ignorance of DNC workings become ever more obvious.
Short of criminal action on DWS's part, it is highly unlikely that President Obama will replace his own DNC appointee (Reid doesn't even have the power) in the middle of a crucial election cycle at the request of a candidate who has all but officially lost the nomination.
If Sanders really seeks to do this, it is also a slap in the face to the presumptive standard bearer and a back-end run against her. It will also undermine his own efforts to have meaningful influence on the party platform. Expending capital and good will in such a way is thoroughly stupid.
