‘Stanford Rape’ Judge Denounced by Barbara Boxer for ‘Outrageous’ Lenient Sentence

Senator Barbara Boxer on Tuesday decried a California judge’s decision to sentence a college athlete to just six months in jail for sexual assault, while signatures on an online petition calling for the jurist’s ouster passed 400,000.

The sentence last week by Santa Clara County Judge Aaron Persky against former Stanford University swimmer Brock Turner gained international attention after a letter from the athlete’s father to the judge that was posted online described the assault as “20 minutes of action.”

“Six months for someone who viciously attacked a woman, especially after she was so brave to come forward, is outrageous,” Boxer said in a statement.

Now hopefully the recall works. I think it might due to the outrage from all sides.

The woman in the sexual assault case involving Stanford University swimmer Brock Turner “was not given dignity in the process,” California Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris said.

Harris, speaking to reporters Wednesday, said she was concerned “the victim’s voice was not heard” in a trial the ended with what many consider a light sentence for Turner.

Harris questioned the six-month sentence, though she said she has not read the full transcript in the case.

“As you know, I have personally prosecuted rape cases, and sexual assault and child molestation cases, and when someone is facing 14 years’ exposure, there has got to be extraordinary mitigation facts to reduce down to six months. And I don’t know if the facts actually met that kind of mitigation,” Harris told reporters.

Remorse at one point and then blame the next. He really pushes responsibility of his own actions onto others. There is zero way he should have gotten the sentence he did.
