http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/elections/2016/06/09/donald-trump-unpaid-bills-republican-president-laswuits/85297274/Donald Trump casts himself as a protector of workers and jobs, but a USA TODAY NETWORK investigation found hundreds of people carpenters, dishwashers, painters, even his own lawyers who say he didnt pay them for their work.
During the Atlantic City casino boom in the 1980s, Philadelphia cabinet-builder Edward Friel Jr. landed a $400,000 contract to build the bases for slot machines, registration desks, bars and other cabinets at Harrah's at Trump Plaza.
The family cabinetry business, founded in the 1940s by Edwards father, finished its work in 1984 and submitted its final bill to the general contractor for the Trump Organization, the resorts builder.
Edwards son, Paul, who was the firms accountant, still remembers the amount of that bill more than 30 years later: $83,600. The reason: the money never came. That began the demise of the Edward J. Friel Company which has been around since my grandfather, he said.
Donald Trump often portrays himself as a savior of the working class who will "protect your job." But a USA TODAY NETWORK analysis found he has been involved in more than 3,500 lawsuits over the past three decades and a large number of those involve ordinary Americans, like the Friels, who say Trump or his companies have refused to pay them.

Trump is a con man.

(23,156 posts)What impresses me the most is how many times hourly workers have sued him, which means he must really not pay them anything, because it seems as though hourly workers will often tolerate being shorted on their wages for far too long. Although maybe over the years people suing certain otherwise well respected department stores has helped make hourly employees more aware of their rights.
And to think that millions of people think he should be running this country.

(7,429 posts)My husband did work at Mar a Lago for him. Drumpf refused to pay the company my husband worked for and told him it was because they would get more publicity from saying "Hey, I remodeled Donald's Bathroom". He never paid them for that bathroom remodel. I have a feeling he does this ALL THE TIME!! This bathroom was about $40,000 remodel.
Donald Drumpf can go to hell as far as I'm concerned. The reason why he has money - he pisses on all of the little people. My husband was laid off shortly thereafter because the business lost a ton of money. It took my husband 2 years to get another job - and this was only part-time. It took him another 2 years to get a Full Time job.
So yes Drumpf - F-U!
sorry that your husband had to go through that.

I'm glad to see that the media won't let up on this piece of crap. Even my local 10pm news went after him. No one likes this guy outside of North Korea.

(82,849 posts)Whether you get paid for it is another matter entirely. For someone worth TEN BILLION DOLLARS as Trump likes to brag on endlessly, it's pretty weird how little he'll chisel people. It's like you or I skated on owing someone 80 cents; what kind of a cheapskate do you have to be to refuse to pay someone?
But I suppose Trump doesn't stay rich by paying for things.

(1,771 posts)Doubtful that he will even address this. But as someone else mentioned, this has all the makings of a great attack piece on the Don.

How miserly is Trump that he'd chisel the waiters out of paying them $800 for attending to the gaggle of swells he wanted to impress?

(45,319 posts)I was literally given a 'Why You Must Hate Donald Trump' tour of NYC by a friend in 84 or 85. I'm saying my friend asked me to swear to always oppose Trump. 30 years ago.
Not everyone was fooled, many persons turned down his offers and refused his gatherings. Trump was a regular target of ACT UP in the late 80's, they did a Halloween action at Trump Tower, very fitting for a horror show. There were a good number of arrests at more than one of their actions..
Not everyone has been slapping back and doing photo ops with him. Some have even declined large fees from his TV show. Yes.

(4,187 posts)The New York media and national network people have known about this for decades. It is not news. Of course the man is a crook. That is not news. Well known around New York/New Jersey for decades. The real question is why did the media not put this front and center for almost a year? They let the Republican primary circus go along and kept feeding the Trump bandwagon. If this had been Sanders, Clinton, Cruz etc. they would have been non-stop about this. So why do we put up with folks who will now come on news programs and lie about this. You know they will all be acting like it's a revelation. That's why I can't watch that sh*t anymore. I don't care who it is doing the talking. His racism was well known also. From the beginning the media knew that they were knowingly holding back very explosive factual information on this jerk. The media owes the American people an answer. They are probably too busy getting ready to re-run the whitewash job they did about NYC before the New York primary. The whitewash job where the media all spent hours upon hours telling everybody about what a welcoming, diversity loving city it is. But nobody dared ask any of the lying talking heads "If that's true, then how come a black man still can't get a cab?"

who worked for a contractor who built a major building for Trump. In Florida.
It was a multimillion dollar project based on a contract. In the last two months Trump stopped all payment. This left the contractor holding 2million dollars in bills to pay his workers and suppliers. Trump said"Sue me".
The contractor said this is Trump's common practice. The lawsuit ruins the contracter and they give up. Meantime the suit costsTrump about 30K and he saves several million.

(2,382 posts)... is based on their delusional belief that they are intrinsically superior to those less fortunate. It's the same syndrome that makes "royalty" feel that they're entitled to the wealth they steal from their "subjects." The children of the rich never learn the value of intangibles like honor, integrity, and compassion, because they've never had any. The people who clean their mansions and collect their trash are usually better people than they will ever be. Fuck 'em.

(9,760 posts)care about this either. As he said, he could shoot someone and still have loads of supporters. As long as it doesn't happen to them personally, they don't care.
But, hopefully, these revelations (not new, but most probably didn't know) will make at least some of his supporters come to their senses!
