(14,647 posts)Think of the logistics. If every person was shot just once with no misses, that's 103 bullets. More likely he fired over 300 rounds.
He had to change clips over and over.
That was one sick fuck.

(12,233 posts)I can't believe this is the action of one gunman acting alone. How did one person attack 103 people in this manner? ARE they really sure it was the action of a lone gunman?

(12,233 posts)Maybe they don't want panic, but why declare state of emergency if the lone gunman is dead?

(14,525 posts)the vast amount of resources needed to handle the aftermath of something like this. It will leave many agencies short handed. SoE can open up federal resources to help with this.
elljay
(1,178 posts)When you are not in a situation like this yourself, you cannot predict how you would act. Dark, crowded club, loud music and everyone dancing and drinking, then suddenly bullets flying, people screaming and falling. Not very easy to even see what is happening, let alone to plot charging at the shooter. This could have been one well-armed single shooter, but the police are being prudent by declaring a state of emergency until they have had a chance to do some investigation.

(3,280 posts)The right wing has politicized trans people going to bathrooms.
The right wing has politicized gay people having housing and being fired from their jobs.
The right wing has politicized gay people getting married.
The right wing has politicized gay people being able to serve, fight, and die for their country.
Don't you dare tell us we can't politicized our deaths if the right wing is going to politicize everything else about LGBT people.

And to people saying the crowd should have overpowered a single shooter. You've never been shot at, these people were terrified and it was total chaos. They likely had no idea where the shots were coming from. People had to be panicking and hiding.

(6,017 posts)I appreciate the sentiment. However, it was "prayer" that inspired the murderer in the first place.
Please, right now that sort of subtle proselytizing is not appreciated by all. Especially those of us who have been continuously attacked by organized, political, "prayerful" religious extremists over the last few years, but especially since the GOP's anti-trans/anti-LGBT resolution in January.

(8,597 posts)The population of Orlando is 238,000. Almost everyone must be related to, know or be somehow connected with one of the dead or hurt.
JennyMominFL
(218 posts)The population is much higher. the "City of Orlando" which is where that number comes from, only contains the small section of downtown. Most live in unincorporated Orlando. I have an Orlando address, however, since I live in unincorporated orlando, I don't get counted in that total. The orlando metro is over 2 million, and the population of urban Orlando is 1.1 million. There are 61,000 alone in my unincorporated zipcode. We are all heartbroken.
