Is it because the shooter's religion might not prove to be that convenient for you?

24. Because Christians kill all the time and almost no one

brings it up the same way they do against Muslims.

Not everything Muslims do is based on religion the way not everything Christians and Jews do is based on religion. But, somehow in the USA most people can't or won't open their eyes to that.

The Secretary of State who said that was born Jewish, raised as a Roman Catholic and converted to the Church of England's brand of Christianity.

So, what did malaise say that bothers you so?

48. If you can read (I mean, besides what YOU write)

you'll see that an entire thread was started by Malaise, dismissing this as a hate crime.

Maybe you haven't yet seen it, or maybe it was planted by the Bush Cabal.

Meanwhile, it's emerging that the shooter pledged allegiance to ISIL.

So, there's that.

11. Then it is way to early for any conclusion to be drawn.

As far as I know... most radical religions do not like gay people, do not like women, do not like anyone different than themselves. And are hell bent on getting people to bend to their will through violence and fear.

Actually, I think that my reasoning is much more open than to anyone claiming it is one or the other. They go hand in hand, imho.

15. Hardcore fundamentalist faith always runs this risk.

At the core, people are taught that the all-powerful God to be worshiped and obeyed hates gays. Then these people think "who are these people to disobey the commandments of God almighty?". And once they start down that road, it gets ugly because the fundie truly believes they are doing God's will.

radicalized. Just because victims are LGBT does not mean it is not terrorism. The common thread is targeting people they hate. Soft targets. Maximum kill. Maximum fear.

I will wait to see further, but I do not believe it can so easily be called a hate crime while leaving the possibility of terrorism off the table.

If the killer wanted to put fear into the LGBT community to advance his view of what is acceptable in society, it's terrorism and a hate crime.

Of course, motive doesn't immediately matter against the pain families are feeling across the world about this horrific act. There will be time to deconstruct motive...

http://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/orlando-nightclub-massacre/orlando-nightclub-shooting-emergency-services-respond-reports-gunman-n590446

Mir Seddique, Mateen's father told NBC News, "this has nothing to do with religion." Seddique said his son got angry when he saw two men kissing in Miami a couple of months ago and thinks that may be related to the shooting.

"We are saying we are apologizing for the whole incident. We weren't aware of any action he is taking. We are in shock like the whole country," Seddique said.

"This whole incident" he calls it. An incident, because sonny boy got angered by the gay! Don't blame family or faith! It's those kissing gays who caused it!

66. my opinion: Because kids are not raised in a neutral atmosphere

and by the time they are 7 years old they have learned much of their very basics from their parents, culture and environment. For most the rest of their lives is spent reinforcing what they believe is true and right. In some cases it is taken to the extreme.

I believe most never realize what has led to their beliefs - they just go on doing what they do without examining why. Coming to this conclusion as I am going through a self-exam later in life.
