(39,961 posts)and you already have people wanting to vacate this site.
I wonder why. It couldn't possibly be because this site already has a history of gay purges, posts that malign us are allowed to stand, and the fucks given despite 50 people losing their lives isn't enough evidence that homophobia is real.
Excuse me for getting pissed off about that.

"when general election season begins, DU members must support Democratic nominees (EXCEPT in rare cases where a non-Democrat is most likely to defeat the conservative alternative, or where there is no possibility of splitting the liberal vote and inadvertently throwing the election to the conservative alternative)."

Apparently that is a-okay.

This isn't the first time we've had this particular rodeo, and I'm shocked that absolutely nothing was learned from the first gay purge episode.

(11,949 posts)Everyone knows what you intended. And you already know the sites you 'True Progressives' can go to.
But you also know that there maybe 100 people on those sites.
DU is where it's at and you know it.
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)heavily populated with liberals (like this one) is going to trend, at its mildest, toward left wing radical. What makes you think you won't be called a Trump supporter there? By nature, these sites are not good at tolerating much deviation from group think. Like with Bernie, you're mostly either all in or you're part of the problem.
Sure you can't just use your "ignore" to edit offensive posters off of DU? After months of never using it, I tried editing away over 150 and didn't miss them at all. There was lots of much better quality conversation left. I only just re-added everyone to watch how DU transitioned to the GE (this is my first election here), but I'll use "ignore" more freely in future.

(11,862 posts)Eugene V Debs was a very liberal...no where near Trump!
Manifestor_of_Light
(21,046 posts)He was a well-spoken Presbyterian minister who ran for President six times as a Socialist. One of the founders of the American Civil Liberties Union. He lived from 1884-1968.
Roosevelt stole his ideas, after FDR was elected, and turned them into the New Deal which kept our country from fracturing from economic violence.
Back in the 1900s through 1920s we had several viable Socialist parties and candidates which included Eugene V. Debs. He got over a million votes for President while he was in prison.

I don't know. I think the amount of adults saying they'd rather hit their dick with a hammer than vote to get a Democratic president is pretty small.
Your posts in threads that mention Trump have been all about how you'll never vote for Hillary, and how Trump is now the inevitable winner. You don't seem to be connecting these two points very well.

It's not you I'm directing this at, but I know every single person that is gay on DU knows exactly the nasty and snide things I'm referring to.

Sure miss him.
Yeah, BartCop's format is a little rough, but it was the only other site I visited faithfully and was very active in. "Bart" and I communicated outside of the site as well, and he used to regular feature my political cartoons and promote the anti-Bush swag I was hawking.
Content-wise, BartCop had some of the best political discussions online (I use the past tense only because it's been quite a while since I've visited; just speaking from my own experience). There were many times when I'd spend much more time there than on DU. I miss him, too.

Everyone knows that it's tedious reading here because after any post that doesn't fit with a certain agenda, there is disinfo.
Now I suppose one could put these posters on ignore and be done with it. I haven't done that, because it's just easier to go to a place like JPR where you can say anything you want.

(45,851 posts)I was talking about me. I've already completely left a site I had been on longer than DU since my point of view is no longer welcome there. Funny thing though the same site loved Obama and hated Hillary in 2008, all manner of intemperate remarks were made about Hillary, often by the same people who love her now.
I'm not alone in noticing that primaries bring out the same flame throwing posters time after time who then go back into hibernation when they can't get away with being total jerks. When they start switching teams in order to toast others it's time to realize that it has nothing to do with the actual candidates and everything to do with the poster's hostility and desire to take out that hostility in an approved setting.
It's been a hell of an education in human nature and I came here fairly cynical to start with, the older I get the more I realize Lily Tomlin was a prophet when she said no matter how cynical you get you can never keep up.

I sent a post to Skinner last night and asked him to pin his "new rules" post to the top of GD-P for the remaining two days.
Some people are reading the "new rules," some aren't, others are interpreting them to mean what they want them to mean.
I've tried to withdraw myself from the fray and I will tell you that it has been a process. And I'm still working on it.
The short version of everything is yes, Hillary Clinton is the person we are expected to support in order to participate in this site.
And as I have said many, many, many times, you can pretty much talk about anything else you'd like other than Hillary Clinton as long as you stay within the site's TOS.
I know the major topic of interest is going to be the election, and if that's what you'd like to discuss, the rules are simple...Support Clinton, criticism in the spirit of her winning and not losing, no "third party spoilers," no pro-Trump.
Sanders will not be off limits. You can post from sunup till sundown about Bernie, his policies, what he is going to do moving forward, as long as your posts are not a call for him to be the 2016 Democratic nominee.
No Clinton bashing, no Sanders bashing...of him, or his supporters. Don't believe any of this? It's in Skinner's announcements. Read them.
So I posted my olive branch, and it's there for acceptance, or not. I'm fine with discussions, I'm fine with arguments if it comes to that, but as far as anything else is concerned, I'm finished with the "personal attacks" mode on DU. I'm finished with everything that split us as a community.
June 16th isn't a "magic" day. If we have to become civil because we have been ordered to become civil and that's the only way we're going to do it, I see something wrong with that. We can make the decision to become civil right now.
There are people who, I am sure, have put me on their ignore lists during the last two months. I've put a few on mine as well. But there are people here who have been around as long as I have, and longer, and I enjoy discussions with them. I want to be here to do just that, and to welcome any new members who are here to do the same, not simply to toss a grenade into the foxhole and get a giggle out of it.
If I could have rubbed the magic lamp and picked a Democratic candidate for November, it would have been Sanders. It looks like that's not going to happen. We've all seen how Trump has behaved, especially in the last couple of weeks. Our options for preventing his Presidency are extremely limited, and there are really only two other options to a flat-out vote for him...vote for Clinton, or don't vote, which is basically a vote for him by default.
All we need to do is make it through the next 5 months. We can do it if we want to, or we can go somewhere else. What we are not going to be able to do is sustain the level of discourse that has existed here during the Primaries.
I'm relinquishing my self-appointed position as "the voice of reason" after this post. I tried. Success was limited. Let's end this and get back to focusing on something positive. It's always there, if you're willing to look for it.

(22,871 posts)where everybody fits your version of "true" anything and agree more than disagree figures out, they get boring quickly. There's a reason why contentious OPs get the highest number of posts. People don't really come to political forums to nod their heads in unison.
