the jury is "randomly selected." It is not. Maybe they will change the wording when the newest policies go into effect.

13. It is randomly selected from among those who are eligible to serve.

There is a detailed explanation of the selection process here: Our Community Moderating System

Immediately after a Community Standards alert is sent our software begins to seat a Jury by randomly flagging members who are currently browsing DU. Members are excluded from serving if:

• they have their "Willingness to serve on a DU Jury" option set to "Unwilling"
• they are ignoring the alerted member
• they are blocking DU mail from the alerted member
• they have replied to the alerted member within the last 24 hours
• they have alerted on the alerted member within the last 24 hours
• they have posted in the thread which contains the alerted post
• they are on the alerted member's Jury Blacklist

After checking to see if a potential Juror is not excluded, the software then does a virtual "dice roll" against the member's chance of serving. Every member's chance of serving is represented as a percentage and is publicly displayed on their Profile page. A member's maximum possible chance of serving is 100%, and their lowest possible chance of serving is 0%.

People might not be aware of some of the things that exclude you from a jury, like the fact that you will not be selected if you've replied to the alerted member within the last 24 hours.

2. I got banished from jury service for voting to "leave alone" a HRC supporters disgusting post

Because it didn't technically violate the TOS. My mistake? I called the poster a jackass (despite not hide worthy) in the jury comments. I thought I was being fair and honest.

Not saying this has anything to do with you, but I wouldn't suggest that the jury pool is at all an honest representative sample of good DUers.

to change it from the My Account tab.

I think there's a way to accidentally opt out of juries entirely when you're actually trying to just skip out of a single jury call - maybe that's why you're a no? (Assuming you didn't intend to be a no, of course...)

...so the only reason you're not "on forced vacation" is that THAT rule has been suspended.

At least some of your hides are for dopey, sniping comments. Cogent arguments are still fine, but that's not what you were putting out, at least for the hides.

put myself back on. Almost every time I log in to DU I get jury duty. Wow. They must be really hard up.

However, I will probably take myself back off when the new jury duty rules go into effect. I think we ought to be able to comment, as I always do, and I think hidden posts should be able to be read by those who want to. Alas, I'm not in charge of such things.
