Siemens is building an army of robot spiders called SiSpis that are equipped with artificial intelligence and 3D printing nozzles. This allows them to autonomously and collaboratively build wherever they are, a new system the inventors are referring to as "mobile manufacturing."

Siemens Spiders, or SiSpis, are 3D printers on the move. Oh, and did we mention they can collaborate with each other?

Livio Dalloro, head of the Product Design, Modeling and Simulation Research group in the Automation and Control Technology Field at Siemens Corporate Technology, is building an army of spider robots equipped with artificial intelligence so they can communicate and collaborate with each other in building things, a new system they are referring to as “mobile manufacturing.”

Each spider uses a camera and laser scanner that allows it to map and effectively navigate its environment, finding ways to move around obstacles in its path.

We continue to automate ourselves out of work. This technology is not there yet but given time, it will devastate manufacturing and construction.
All we would need is a computer that can design things on its own and no humans are necessary in the system.

society. What if this is an opportunity to free people to study learn and progress on greater ideas?

Maybe the beginning of not only beginning to explore space, but to create habitats?

Idk... Being freed from menial labor may pave the way to rebalancing education to expand art, music, humanities, history toward a path of greater wisdom.

I don't blame tech for human failure. I blame capitalists for isolating themselves from civilization as tho they exist only for capital & themselves.

5. I don't blame technology or capitalists. Technological change occurred long before capitalists.

But freeing people for mental labor requires a fundamentally different form of society and economy than the one we are living in.

Workers exchange labor for capital (money) to buy products to consume.
If all labor is handled by robots, then only those who own the robots in our system benefit from that labor. The former human workers are left to themselves to live whatever brief, miserable lives they can manage.

Society and capitalists will have to change direction for continuity of society.

What are the alternatives? Forced euthanasia on unproductive populace? Or misery for 90% of the populace? How will that help humanity's next evolution (my belief is it lies in colonizing space).

Your point is well taken. On most days I'd agree with you. I just hope for better.

Those with Robots and technology could continue to live as lords. The without survive as they can. Capitalism survives. Consumerism dies because capitalists no longer need consumers.

I've tried to stay up to date with AI but it's difficult. One thing that stood out is that AI techs are concerned that if the AI does something wrong how do you tell 'it' that? Will it recognize that it is wrong or inaccurate?
