Ok. Its mental health

From now on everyone should be screened for mental health issues...in priority order

1) when they buy a gun EVERYTIME they buy a gun
2) when they threaten violence against anyone including women and children including on the internet EVERYTIME
3) when they lose a job EVERYTIME if they own guns
4) when they get news of major illness EVERYTIME if they own guns
5) whenever they get bad news in life or love EVERYTIME if they own guns
6) whenever they buy bullet proof clothing EVERYTIME
6) when they buy ammunition in quantity EVERYTIME
7) on a periodic basis if none of the other risk factors appear

Its not mental illness...its mental illness combined with guns.

I think you mean something like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, etc., but there's a real problem with the term "mentally ill" since it's a catch-all. With some work people cane screened for past behaviors that indicate a propensity for violence or an inability to make wise decisions. That last is a problem, because then you get into people who drink and use opioids and so forth, so perhaps the screening should just include having been violent without good reason. But then...well,you get the idea.

Seems to me this man may have suffered from some sort of Axis II personality disorder, was filled with rage and hatred, and looked for a way to elevate those feelings by justifying them through connection with an ideology. But man, those guys can pass tests like you wouldn't believe. And someone can in fact appear to be pretty okay and have a breakdown or be triggered by events.

Mind you, I'm in favor of it but it's a very complicated idea.

Meanwhile, the damned assault weapons need to go.

I just think that someone with homicidal tendencies is also not mentally healthy.
I would think that it would also show up in mental screening

Checked into twice by the FBI.

No, the fact is we need to eliminate the guns. It's the only option that will work.

It wasn't even a life changing event reevaluation.

No, it's the guns. It is the only answer.

That it is of little consequence.

I'm all for enforcing the 2a as originally intended. You can have a smooth bore musket as long as you're active military.

You know, when I lost my 2 family members to a drunk driver, I was angry, sad, frustrated, but it never crossed my mind to limit others rights because of my tragedy. Now I know what a Nanny-State Liberal sounds like.

We live in a nanny state from both parties. Try to carry a big lighter or a bottle of water onto an airplane. Go try to buy aerial fireworks and legally set them off (there are a couple of rare exceptions here . Go try to buy a sofa not poisoned with anti flammable liquids. Try walking around with a few ounces of pot.

But hey, let's keep it strict 2a. Go try to buy a fully auto turret mounted .50 cal. A shoulder fired hellfire, an M1A1. An ICBM.

Yeah, there's f'in nanny state all over the place except the one taboo spot, weapons that allow over 100 people to be shot by a single individual in a matter of minutes.
