Since most gun owners don't tote their AR-15 around, even if permitted by state law.

.. then it wasn't a mass shooting- it doesn't count.
If the person shot 4 or more people, then the gun didn't stop the mass shooting, and doesn't count.
There have been instances of the ar-15 being used in self-defense.
