Me?
That Republicans won't even consider gun control legislation
and
That I got stopped by a rude and scary cop who treated me like
a mass murderer for failure to slow down to 20 mph along another
cop and speeder on the side of the road. I asked "What'd I do?" and he said
in the most scary and stern tone..."I will tell you after you properly identify yourself"
You?

(884 posts)in a large barrel. Statistically insignificant chance. Never had a bad experience with a cop.
So no, never afraid of getting shot. Besides Behaving oneself when interacting with a cop goes a long way in ensuring that it never happens, even with the bad cops.

(11,862 posts)she went outside to get away from him and was arrested..the cop did not show up for her court date...she spent a night in jail for NO FUCKING REASON...do not tell me about cops..I would wager a years income that that same cop was abusive to his wife!

(42,770 posts)horribly wrong. so, you don't say anything. Kind of reminds me of the old movies in the south where the character gets tossed in jail and since the sheriff owns the town you are stuck.

And, on a trip from Houston we were stopped. My husband and I were separated and interrogated.

(884 posts)I felt they had no business in knowing. Here is my name, license, that's it. Wanted to search my car? Get a warrant.
But I would never never never physically resist. That's when the trouble begins. Fortunately I never been in that situation.
Sounds like you were given a bit of a hassle.

(42,770 posts)automatically go into this mode like omg - I am going to jail or worse. And, that feeling must me magnified by a trillion for those who are profiled.
Guns. I hate them. I wish they were never invented.
on the other hand, if I was in danger or my family, I can't imagine not doing everything to stop the person. But, would like to think I would have a stun gun and shoot the person in the legs
Squinch
(50,934 posts)Yes, I agree about the guns. Not so much the guns as the obstructionists who insist on their right for their hobby to put everyone else in danger.
Other countries manage not to have weekly massacres. We are idiots.

(1,957 posts)I was getting ready to shutdown for the night and it had the little thingy that said updates were ready to be installed and should it go ahead.
Knowing from experience that they try to stick that win 10 thing where I don't want it, I figured it'd be good to check before I said OK.
It's a good thing I did cause what popped up was something like: "Are you ready for a Windows 10 experience?" (or something like that.
So I looked for the KB3035583 update number cause that's the colon prep.
They changed the number.
I'd tell you what it is, but.... you're probably a Hillary supporter and need such an experience to teach some humility.
Marie Marie
(9,999 posts)Can you please just whisper it in my ear and it will remain our secret?
seabeckind
(1,957 posts)The title of the thing made it pretty obvious it was a win 10 install. The number was really just an extra piece of fluff. It was in the optional update category and already selected... wasn't that clever?
I figured those others would be hunting all over for something that isn't necessary and getting all frustrated.
Heh, heh...

(1,957 posts)I deselected the previous one I mentioned but now there's this guy:
"Updated capabilities to upgrade Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 --
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3123862)"
And this article:
Last week I wrote about a mysterious new patch for Windows 7 and 8.1 machines called KB 3123862. Released on Feb. 3, the nearly undocumented optional patch claimed it would ease the transition to Windows 10.
Yesterday, Feb. 10, Microsoft changed the patch from optional to recommended, and it's now being installed automatically on millions of machines. One big problem: Nobody seems to know what the patch does.
http://www.infoworld.com/article/3031391/microsoft-windows/what-little-we-know-about-recommended-windows-781-update-kb-3123862.html
Ok, now what? Is this guy a trojan horse? I think I'll hide it and see what happens.
Be careful out there, people.
(added) I think I'll turn off the Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2952664) as well.
I don't like the idea of Microsoft's partners wandering around in my 'chine.
Marie Marie
(9,999 posts)sneak in a Windows 10 update. I do have that KB2952664 appearing as an important download but do not have that one mentioned in the shaded box above. I wonder why different people get different updates...

(1,957 posts)Tho the article I linked talked about 3123862 showing up last Feb, I hadn't seen it until now.
On my wife's machine the actual Win 10 thing I mentioned earlier didn't show up at all but the other 2 came in late this afternoon.
Oh well, ever vigilant. There are people in the world who enjoy our discomforts.

(16,327 posts)who is ALL about "the Muslims are coming to get us!" The Orlando shooting set hm off again.
My response to his screaming about the Scary Muslims: We have a problem with religious fundamentalism, period. My big problem is those who scream loudest about "radical Islam" don't seem to have as much anger or indignation when it is a radical "christian" who is doing the bombing/assassinations/mass killings/calling for the deaths of others. I have FAR more to fear from THEM in our country than any fundamentalist Muslim -- after all, RW "christians" run many of our governments and attempt to make laws based on their radical religious ideologies. Fuck'em ALL.
His response: Wow HHNF really. Well we'll see how many more attacks Christian fundamentalists pull off in the coming years. No you should be scared of a run away Muslim cult in whose world you would be a second class citizen. There is no moral equivalency here. Ask the homosexuals in many Muslim countries how they are treated. Oh that's right you can't because most are killed.
Christianity gets no pass in my book, but to fear it over a splinter religion gaining strength? No comparison HHNF and (name removed) none. I know you're angry as am I but let's not fall into some collective Stockholm Syndrome over radical Islam.
I especially love the "mansplaining" he did for me, the Little Lady who apparently is clueless.

(1,786 posts)Need to take a step back and check themselves. If that is the way they begin each evolution. I realize the shitty and very dangerous job it is being in LE but no one is forcing them to get up everyday and go be a police officer, they do it voluntarily.
I have been pulled over by officers that even before the first exchange of words took place the officer took a highly authoritative posture with their hand on their firearm and other officers that were firm but very professional and respectful. I understand why the two sides but the encounter is 100x better and goes a long way to improving the image of LE with the officers that are professional as opposed to the to the officers that are not.

(11,794 posts)The decent ones anyway.
For example, had a breakdown on 90. State cop, young, very helpful, very cool. Couple weeks later, band got pulled over leaving a bar. Driver hadn't a drop. Cop walked up to the window, hand on gun, yelling and cursing n shit. We hadn't done anything mind you. This was this asshole's idea of a sobriety check. Total douche. Makes you wanna hate cops if it happens often enough. Really makes it hard on the good ones.
