Not religious myself but. Proverbs 6:16-19

There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.

something that many religious people don't believe but is true nonetheless

Much of judeo christian values are simply good rules for human interactions...

don't murder, don't steal, don't lie, do unto others... etc.

And I find your comment to be nasty.

IMHO.

Turning brother against brother and all of that.

If you believe something so utterly ridiculous that even Bernie biased jury hid it, then there's no point in ever having a discussion with you.

It preaches less a specific deity and more a mode of proper conduct. Even if you dismiss the religion, often there are insights to be gained from the writings. (Often these are insights we knew but put in a different light or just reminders of things we've "evolved" past.)

You have to get to a reasonably large canon of sacred texts for it to show up as in freestanding works.

Good for you for posting this! Most of us are all too aware of "Religious Right" figures who use Bible-waving [NOTE: I said "Bible-waving", not "Bible-quoting" or "Bible-reading"] and their supposed "Born-again" status as excuses and shields for the most squalid examples of shameless and repeated lying, slander, and hate-speech.

These hypocrites need to be called on their shameless behavior and quoting Scrpture back at them is a proper and righteous way to do so.
