My week at the VA hospital, last week, has made me much, much more optimistic.

We'll never change the 54 yr old Slapnics, but the young folks I ran into are changed and they will bring that change with them. It was the most immersed I've been by the most diverse, competent people I've ever been around. Its coming around and its coming in a most complete way.

He was wearing his Army Veteran hat the other day and a man started talking to him, complaining about how bad the VA was. Told him we were very pleased with them and had no problem. He said the president was lousy and Trump would fix things. Continued talking about how bad the VA was. I mentioned that Congress wouldn't appropriate the money they needed and he agreed. The dope doesn't have a clue that the Republicans run Congress I guess. I didn't argue with him - who knows who he is, except that he is a Trump supporter who has the nerve to walk up to a stranger and start a political diatribe. Wouldn't trust him to not start a scene. Got away from him as fast as possible.

But the fact is the VA has been good about my treatment of bladder cancer and been as good about my new colon cancer. What has impressed me so very much in this last go around which has made me stay in the hospital is how competent, motivated, trained, and young and diverse the personnel are. The very top echelon is still old white guys, but its just a matter of time.

We have never had a bad experience at the VA. Our first contact with them was in the early 80s. My husband had cancer of the tongue, had surgery there and was cured. He also had a hernia repair there.
