The child was sitting on the beach. Not wading, not swimming.

At least that's what this updated account is saying.

"Since the 9:00 p.m. attack, investigators has pulled and killed five gators from the area, but none appear to be the culprit. Officials estimated the responsible gator to be between four and seven feet long.

In response to reports the family was watching a hotel-sponsored movie near the shore, Disney said it hosts such events but believed the film ended before the attack. The family was sitting near the shore, not swimming or wading in the water, officials said."

Alligators come onto land, too. You don't have to be in the water to encounter them.

so many are focusing on the fact the child was supposedly in the water.

I've seen them go after golfers that got too close.

4. This was not the child's or family's fault.

I'm not sure it's possible to protect everybody 100% of the time from alligators.

Their place in Naples was at the edge of the subdivision, right across a stream from what was then ('80s -early '90s) undeveloped land. And there he was, pretty much every afternoon.

9. That is not surprising. Alligators are ambush predators and wait at the edge of the water

for prey to come to drink.

It can be hard to see them in good light, impossible at night.

Early reports managed to get in the part about "No Swimming" signs very consistently, and had the child placed in the water, with no Disney spokesperson identified.

It ain't the Magic Kingdom for nothing.
