My advice about guns

I figured since there are a million and one threads about this already, one more couldn't hurt. We have spent so much time and effort trying to work out a deal that makes everyone happy and that's legal, it seems the biggest issue is ignored.

What about the next generation of firearms? What about rail guns, pneumatic weapons, energy weapons, etc?

Hell, I know of people that make RC Battleships that shoot fully-automatic canons. They use ball-bearings for ammo and they shred each other's boats up. Should stuff like this be addressed to?

We have come to a point in our existence where almost anyone with the will could make their own guns at home. Machining tools, 3D printers, reloading equipment, these are only a few of the tools available to someone if they really wanted a gun.

So, what is my advice about guns? If you really want to make a long term difference, maybe target the guns that don't exist yet and then work backwards. By doing this, people can finally see the finish line in gun control. It will no longer be a never-ending battle. Will this fix our current problems? Of course not. But since there's already thousands of others trying to address that issue, why not just one person look into my idea. What's the worst that could happen? We ban a gun that never gets invented?

I'm into the making things... I have used Arduino's for years along with Raspberry pi's for years for projects... just got a 3d printer this past year and am getting a cnc mill this summer and hoping to find a lathe used...

small arduino's can control stepper motors... add a camera and some open source software and they can follow human shapes... add a servo and they can pull triggers... paint ballers have been doing it for years now...

3d printing a gun is now easy... my printer can print up to 300 C degrees which permits higher temp / stronger materials... new generations of printers that embed kevlar and carbon fibre into the materials, greatly improving the strength, having been showing up for the past year... several designs for 3d printed semi-auto guns work now...

The next big thing is small home CNC machines... you can get into one for under $1k... now you can make metal parts where plastics were a compromise... trigger components, barrels and action parts...

I'm not sure how you close pandora's box on this... the tech isn't that difficult... maybe try and control ammo but as you say you have home reloading... and I've seen 3d printed ammo that uses screws and bolts embedded in the plastic... control gun powder maybe... but you can make that at home as well...

the raw materials can be made from things people trow away... people are working on using pop bottles... aluminum cans are smelted into bars that can be worked...

like I said I do not know how you can control something you can do without every leaving your basement... right now the skills involved to do all this are pretty high... but I can do most of those things without ever taking a class on current machines... the next generation of machines might be as easy to use as a microwave...
